Accidental Intent by Desi Moon

Thank you so much Lucy for letting me highjack your blog today! *Mwah* I really appreciate it! 🙂

My stories often begin with a flash, a “what if” moment. I begin with an opening and an idea of where I hope to end up. The middle of the story is left completely to the characters.

When I sat down to write Accidental Intent, I had Lucy (my “heroine”) nattering in my ear about this that and the other. She told me about her business and her dogs. I was hooked with her dogs. A bloodhound named Rufus and a St. Bernard named Baloo. So I was in, but quickly questioned my commitment when things began to get out of hand.

I had envisioned another contemporary romantic comedy much like my first book, Summerland. It had all the earmarks—an opinionated heroine, a sexy man (Nicolai, the love interest stepped forward and I swooned before he said a word) nosy friends and an idyllic location. Longmont Colorado is incredibly scenic.

However, my seemingly innocent contemporary romance got off to a not so innocent start, when Sheila, Lucy’s best friend, finds a dead body in a dumpster. Suddenly Longmont isn’t looking quite so innocent. Nicolai stepped forward and announced he is a homicide detective. His low gravelly voice should have been music to my ears, but instead it just irritated me. How the hell am I supposed to write a fun light hearted contemporary romance with a dead body stinking up my idyllic setting?

Then another body was found, bad guys started to creep out of the woodwork and I had no idea who they were. It had been a couple decades years since I had read Nancy Drew, but my detective skills were still fairly decent.

Three months later I was staring at a fun murder mystery romp that holds danger, intrigue, hot romance, goofy dogs, annoying exes, a lot of coffee and some incredibly fashion forward footwear.

Accidental IntentWhen drugs and murder invade sleepy Longmont, Colorado, Lucy Lafferty, resident dog trainer, finds her quiet existence turned inside out with her name added to a rising body count. And that wouldn’t be good for her four-legged furry family or her prized designer shoe collection.

During the rising heat of summer, Lucy Lafferty reaches the conclusion that men aren’t worth the effort, especially with an ex-sex partner who pushes to revive a relationship that never existed. But when she’s thrown together on a murder investigation with Detective Nicolai Petrovski, the mercury rises to dangerous levels that have nothing to do with the season. Investigating a backwoods dog rescue unknowingly puts them both into dangerous territory and Lucy, despite all her bravado, can’t help falling for the magnetic cop.
