Fiery 10-16 by Lea Bronsen (@LeaBronsen)

Hi, and thank you for hosting my new dark romantic suspense!

Fiery 10-16 is a scorching firefighter story of desire, abuse, and bravery.

Fiery 1016Runo Wiggins is a scarred man, the wounds etched into his psyche deeper than those on his skin. But he loves his job: fighting fires helps reenact his survival of a house fire as a teen, one that killed his mother and brutal stepfather.

Dawn Caravello is married to a psychotic drunk. She can take his beatings as long as he doesn’t touch their children, and she’ll do anything to put food on the table, even if it means stealing from the town hero.

When Runo meets the fiery Dawn, sparks fly. But he suspects she is victim of the same abuse as his mother was. As day turns to night, the past and the present blend in an exhausting, nerve-wrecking chase to prevent another death.

Excerpt:

Dawn’s eyes shimmered with a mix of stubborn pride and extreme sadness. They seemed to be made of molten brown stone. Runo had never seen eyes like these. So vibrant, saying so many things. They revealed her life, her endurance, her dreams, her combats, her despair. And she was still so young.

While he stared, she leaned forward and kissed him, an act a whole lot more intimate than he was comfortable with. A short, hard peck, a statement. Not the tender gesture a kiss was supposed to be, but one telling him her gratitude as well as her dignity. She thanked him, but was going to go back to her life and continue fighting.

He stood shocked, his whole body rigid, didn’t know what to do. She, such a small woman thing a whole head shorter, shook him, a giant of muscle and stupid testosterones inside a hard shell.

He would definitely take care of Dawn and her kids. Any way possible. Alert the authorities and make sure they got the protection they desperately needed.

She stepped backward, her features softening, and turned on her heel.

Not so fast.

He cleared his throat and called, lifting a weak hand. “Hey, wait!” His heart hammered in his chest, blood pulsed in his ears.

She turned. “What?”

“Promise to be good. Promise it’s the last time you do it.”

“Do what?” Her eyes gleamed with humor. “Kiss you?” In the midst of this emotional turmoil, she found the strength to tease.

“Steal.”

And lie.

She pursed her lips, looking like a disappointed little girl. Maybe she still was a child inside. A child taking care of children. A child beaten savagely.

He swallowed. “Promise.”

After several long seconds, she nodded. But her gaze told a different truth.

Liar.

My Sexy Saturday #64 – Their Sexy Talk #MySexySaturday

My Sexy Saturday

Welcome back to My Sexy Saturday. This is where writers post either 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs from their published work or work in progress. This week I’m sharing another snippet from my M/M erotic romance story, Fired Up, which appears in Uniform Fetish: Manlove Edition – it follows on directly from last week’s. I’ll likely switch to something new next week.

“Straight ahead at the top of the stairs,” Greg said with a grin.

Without replying, Lucas headed for the door in question, opened it and maneuvered them both through without hitting either of them on anything. Kicking the door shut behind them, he crossed over to the bed and lowered Greg to the mattress.

“You don’t have to be quite so gentle, you know. I’m not saying that dropping me out of a second story window is a good idea, but you can toss me onto the bed without doing any damage.”

“Quit your sarcasm and get naked,” Lucas growled. “You said it yourself, we’ve got some lost time to make up for.”

Greg did as commanded, and did it way faster than Lucas expected. He was gazing at his friend’s naked body before he’d really prepared himself. And damn, it looked just as good as he remembered … better, actually, given the erection that stood proudly from its nest of tight curls. He’d never seen that before. His mouth actually watered a little as he drank in the sight—the lithe yet muscled form, the long, thick cock, and the wide grin plastered on his face.

“Your turn, hot fireman,” Greg said, raking his gaze up and down Lucas’s body. “Though at some point, we’ve gotta figure out a way for us to screw while you’re wearing the uniform. It’s fucking sexy. But right now, I want your skin against mine, your mouth on mine, your cock inside me.”

Lucas’s response was to shrug off his heavy jacket and let it fall to the floor. Then he removed his boots one by one, where they thumped onto the carpet. Next came his braces—the thick straps which held up his trousers—which he tugged off his shoulders before undoing his fly and shoving his trousers to his ankles. Stepping out of them, he shot a glance at Greg, who was watching him with a predatory expression on his face. He indicated Lucas should continue.

Letting out a laugh that came right from his belly, Lucas shook his head. “No, I don’t. But, um, at the risk of sounding insensitive, how is it going to work?”

“Oh, down there?” Greg pointed at his crotch. “Everything works just fine for me. I can even feel my legs. They just don’t work all that well at the moment. But I’m sure we can find workarounds for the time being, right?” When Lucas nodded, he continued, “To avoid any further delays, yes, I have lube and condoms. So, if it’s not too much trouble, sexy fireman, could you carry me to my bedroom?”

Half-wondering if he was in some kind of incredibly vivid dream, Lucas nodded, then stood up. Reaching down, he lifted Greg out of the wheelchair and made his way upstairs, careful not to whack his left leg on the stair lift that was Greg’s usual way of getting to the upper floor of his house.

“Like what, Greg? You’re still you. You just sit on your arse all of the time.” He winked. “Seriously, though, even if you never walk again, I’ll still want you. It doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference to me. But I know you. You will walk again. I don’t know when, but I’ll be here when you do. If that’s what you want.”

Nodding profusely, Greg wheeled himself closer. “Yes. Yes. But … that’s not all I want.”

Lucas raised his eyebrows in a question. “It isn’t?”

“No.” A wicked grin spread across Greg’s face. “You know how I said you looked hot in that uniform? Well, I meant it. But I’d also rather like to see what you look stripping out of it. And fucking me. Christ, we’ve experienced enough sexual tension to last several lifetimes. I think we should give in to it, so we can move on with slightly clearer heads.” He tipped Lucas a wink. “I say slightly because, well, we’ve got a lot of time to make up for. I don’t think once is going to be enough. Do you?”

My Sexy Saturday #61 – Sexy Me Once #MySexySaturday

A silence, companionable this time, fell over them as they sipped at their drinks. When he’d finished the sweet beverage, Lucas reached over and placed his empty mug on a coaster on the table beside him.

“So,” he said, looking at his friend, “what happens now?”

Greg glanced down at his mug, then back up at Lucas almost shyly. “Well, um, I guess it depends.”

“On?”

“You. This, us meeting, talking, has happened way sooner than I’d planned, but it doesn’t change the way I feel. But if you’re not available…”

“I am.” Lucas replied quickly. He saw no sense in stringing it out. They’d wasted enough time. “I’m available, Greg. I always have been. It’s the soppiest, girliest cliché ever, so don’t you dare breathe a word to anyone else, but it’s always been you, for me. I’m not saying I’ve been the Virgin Mary, but it’s only been physical—nothing more. So, if you want to give it a go, I’m game.”

Greg downed the rest of his tea and dumped the mug and try on the nearest table. “It doesn’t bother you that I’m … like this? That I could be like this forever?”

Who Loves a Man in Uniform? I Do! (@evernightpub)

Uniform Fetish Tour Banner2

Hi everyone,

When I saw Evernight Publishing’s call for submissions for a uniform fetish anthology, I knew I had to write something for them. Regular visitors to this site, and readers of my work will know I am quite fond of men in uniform… soldiers, in particular 😉

But when it came to penning something for this call for submissions, I wanted to do something different. So I decided to write my very first fireman. And so Fired Up and my characters, Lucas Hartley and Greg Barnett, were born. They’re actually old army buddies (so yeah, I still managed to squeeze a soldier reference in there!), but drifted apart for reasons which you’ll have to read the anthology to find out, and bump into each other again years later, when Lucas arrives at Greg’s house to fit some smoke detectors. I can’t say too much without totally giving the game away, but let’s just say there was a spark (no pun intended) between them years ago, and it’s most definitely ignited in the present day. But can they overcome their old issues in order to explore the chemistry between them? Only one way to find out…

Here’s an excerpt:

Normally Lucas would decline such offers, wanting to get his job done and get out as fast as possible—especially if he was being flirted with—but this situation was different, and not one he’d have imagined, not in a million years. After all this time he was seeing Greg Barnett again. He was in no rush to get away. Apparently Greg’s magnetism hadn’t faded over time, or as a result of his new circumstances.

“Uh, yes,” he finally said, realizing his brain had gotten carried away and he hadn’t actually replied to the question. “That would be great, thanks. Maybe a cup of tea?”

“Plenty of milk, two sugars,” added Greg, before Lucas got time to finish.

He remembered how I take my damn tea. Christ.

“That’s right, isn’t it, Lucas?” Greg grinned at him, a twinkle in his green eyes.

Nodding, and turning a smile on Violet, he said, “Yes, that’s right. If it’s not too much trouble.”

“Not at all.” Violet turned and headed through the archway Greg had first come out of when Lucas had arrived, which presumably led to the kitchen.

“So,” Lucas said, a little too brightly as he began to unpack his equipment, “other than the obvious, what have you been up to since I last saw you? You’re not married, I take it?”

Shooting a glance in the direction of the kitchen, Greg turned back to him with a glare. “No,” he said quietly, “I’m not married. Why in God’s name would I be married?”

The mood in the room had gone from jovial to glacial in the space of a couple of seconds. Feeling petulant, Lucas shrugged, “Oh, I dunno. Because it’s what people do, perhaps?”

“Not people like us,” Greg ground out, his eyes narrowed.

“Oh!” Pressing a hand theatrically to his heart, Lucas replied, “So you’re admitting it now, are you? People like us, huh? Well this is progress indeed.”

“What’s progress?” Violet asked as she came back into the room, carrying two mugs. She handed one each to Lucas and Greg, then returned for a third one, which she cradled in her hands as she looked at Lucas, still awaiting a response.

“Your brother has finally decided where he wants the detectors. He’s just as indecisive as I remember.” On the surface, the words were harmless enough, but Lucas knew that Greg would understand the subtext, which, of course, was why he’d said it. Now the shock was wearing off, the resentment was starting to seep through. It was hardly a surprise, given the number of things they’d left unsaid.

Violet was either completely unaware of the tension between the two men, or was blatantly ignoring it. “Well that’s great. Do you want to get started?”

I hope that’s whetted your appetite for more! This story, plus eight more delicious M/M uniform stories, appear in Uniform Fetish: Manlove Edition. Add it to your Goodreads shelves here.
