A Sneak Peek from Fast Lust #preorder #99c #comingsoon

Hi everyone,

The long weekend has got me scrabbling to catch up, so I missed out on Mid Week Tease this week, sadly. But I decided to share an excerpt with you anyway. My story, Fast Lust, is now completed, edited and ready to go into the upcoming British Bad Boys Boxed Set, so I thought I’d give you a sneak peek. This is a snippet from the very beginning of the story, so we haven’t even met the sexy biker hero yet, but I will be using this story in my Mid Week Tease posts for a few weeks, so you’ll be able to enjoy him soon enough. Or you could just pre-order the set and enjoy the whole story, plus six other awesome bad boy tales, on the 4th May! šŸ˜‰

Gloria Heath gaped at her boss, Graeme, unsure if sheā€™d heard him correctly. No, no, she couldnā€™t have heard him correctly, because she thought heā€™d said he wanted her to go and cover the first round of the British Superbikes at Donington Park. She shook her head and chuckled. He must have said The Great British Bake Off. That sounded similar, didnā€™t it?

Graeme frowned. ā€œSomething funny, Gloria?ā€

She snapped her focus back to her editor and smiled. ā€œSorry. I must be going deaf, or mad, because I thought you said you wanted me to cover some motorbike race.ā€

His expression was stony. ā€œI did,ā€ he replied coolly. ā€œDo you have a problem with that?ā€

Blinking, she opened her mouth, then closed it again. Narrowing her eyes, she said, ā€œBut Iā€™m a lifestyle reporter. I coverā€”ā€

ā€œIā€™m well aware of what you cover, Gloria. Iā€™ve been your boss for three yearsā€”donā€™t you think Iā€™m familiar with what you write by now?ā€ He sighed. ā€œI know itā€™s not your usual thing, and is way out of your comfort zone, but donā€™t you think a change would be nice? A bit of a challenge for you?ā€

Gulping, she replied, ā€œA ch-challenge? Graemeā€¦ did I do something wrong?ā€

He rolled his eyes. ā€œItā€™s an article, Gloria, not a bloody punishment. No, you didnā€™t do anything wrong. Your work is exemplaryā€”always has been, and Iā€™m sure it always will be. But I have one of the sports writers off sick, with no one else available to take his place, and not covering the first round of the British Superbikes is tantamount to blasphemy for our motorsport readers.ā€

A feeling of dread settled in her stomach, making her nauseous. ā€œDo Iā€¦ have a choice?ā€

Graeme raised his eyebrows. ā€œIā€™m an editor, not a dictator. But come on, Gloria, do me a favour here. Like I said, thereā€™s no one else to take his placeā€”youā€™re the only one with time in your schedule. If Iā€™m not mistaken, the stuff youā€™re currently working on isnā€™t time-sensitive. Sundayā€™s race, however, is.ā€ He leaned forward and put his elbows on the desk, then flashed her a smile. ā€œWeā€™ll even put you up in a nice hotel, right near to the track. One little article, Gloria. Youā€™ll be saving my life. Please.ā€

Gloria knew when she was beaten. Graeme wouldnā€™t force her, she knew that, but it was clearly very important to him. And heā€™d never asked her to do something like this beforeā€”he was generally very laid back, and let her get on with writing pretty much whatever she wanted to. So one article out of her comfort zoneā€”albeit way out of her comfort zoneā€”was the least she could do. ā€œAll right,ā€ she said resignedly. ā€œIā€™ll do it, for you. But you have to give me a full briefing on what exactly youā€™re looking for. The last thing I want is to end up writing something where Iā€™ve taken completely the wrong angle.

ā€œAnd,ā€ she added, ā€œwhere the hell is Donington Park, anyway?ā€

Graemeā€™s expression turned despairing. ā€œIn the Midlands, Gloria. Near Derby and Nottingham. North of Watford Gap.ā€

ā€œBloody hell, thatā€™s miles away! Have I got to drive? Iā€™ll need a pool car.ā€

ā€œDrive, get the train, hell, you can even fly. The circuitā€™s next door to a bloody airport. I donā€™t care, as long as you go, all right?ā€

She folded her arms. ā€œThe train will be fine. Though a first class ticket wouldnā€™t go amiss.ā€

Graeme rolled his eyes. ā€œDone.ā€

ā€œAnd about the briefingā€¦ā€

ā€œOf course! I wouldnā€™t send you in there unprepared. Right, you go and carry on with whatever you were doing while I get all the arrangements sorted. Come and see me when you get here tomorrow morning, and weā€™ll go through everything you need to know.ā€ She nodded and stood up, then turned to leave. ā€œOh, and Gloria?ā€ She turned back. ā€œThank you. I really do appreciate it.ā€

ā€œYouā€™re welcome, boss. Just donā€™t make a habit of it, all right?ā€ She winked to show she was joking.

Grinning, he waved a hand at her. ā€œGo on, get out. Iā€™ll see you in the morning.ā€
