The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella – Stephenie Meyer
When I heard that The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (phew, the title is as long as her second life!) was going to be released, I was always going to buy it. I enjoyed the Twilight Saga and Eclipse was my favourite of the four books. As it was a good while ago when I last read the books, I barely remembered who Bree Tanner was, much less her fate, so I went into this novella with a fairly open mind.
I whizzed through this book in little over an hour and really enjoyed it. As with the Twilight Saga books, the narrative is action-packed and easy to read. The storyline was also interesting and gave a whole new perspective on a story that you thought you knew everything about. In the introduction, Stephenie Meyer mentioned that had she allowed this story to develop before submitting Eclipse for publication, she would have changed Eclipse. I can take a guess at what she’d change, and it would indeed have been a nice end to the story, but sadly, Bree’s fate was decided before even opening this book.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a must-read for Twilight fans as it gives another perspective, but otherwise, there’s nothing here to hook you in. It’s purely aimed at those that already know what the world Meyer created is all about. And, whatever you do, don’t fork out the RRP for this book – you’ll read it so quickly that you’ll feel cheated. I think the RRP was far too high considering this is just a novella.
