The Collector – An Anthology Re-released! by Kay Jaybee (@kay_jaybee)

It’s been ten years since I first wrote my linked anthology style novel, The Collector, and almost eight years since it was first published.

Recently the rights to the original books manuscript returned to me, and so I decided to re-edit the whole book, give it a brand new cover, and to add in 2 HOT NEW STORIES!

With the re-release of this, my very first solo full length piece on the 17^th May, I’ve found myself looking back to The Collector’s origins. It all began one early morning sat in a crowded coffee shop at Heathrow airport, while I was talking to a very dear friend on the phone, while awaiting a flight.

It was due to that brief conversation that, not only was the idea for The Collector conceived, but that I privately made the decision to stay in the world of erotica writing, and not branch out to try my luck with other genres.

Before writing The Collector I’d already had a far number of short stories published, and was bursting with plenty of ideas for new ones. However, I wanted to write something longer; something that was as long as a novella or short novel, but which had the variety of an anthology.

I digress…so there I was sat sipping coffee at the airport when my friend called me. All he said down the phone was “go buy The Observer newspaper.” Curious, I did just that, and there, between a front cover shot of Joan Collins, and a back cover advert for new encyclopaedia’s, was an article all about female erotica writers.

Back then, erotica was an even more of a hidden world than it is now, and as I read I knew I wanted to stay part of it. Enthused with new zip and a determination to be every bit as successful as those brave women revealing their secret writing persona’s to the press, I extracted my ever ready notebook from my bag, and began to look at the people around me. I wanted to write- but where to start? As I watched the ever moving crowd, I began to wonder what each individual would want me to write for them. What would their fantasies be? What kinky secrets of their own would they share given half the chance?

It was from these musings that the idea for The Collector was born. A book of stories ‘collected’ by a woman in pursuit of as many sexual exploits as she could. And what better way to start, than to combine my own dream to one day be a successful writer of erotica, and the fantasy of one of my other friends, who (like so many others, be they male or female) visualises being picked up by a beautiful intelligent woman for sex in a no strings attached way. This story became, New Territory, the first of kinky work within The Collector; a tale which had been completely drafted by the time my plane reached its destination.

My search then began in earnest for interesting triggers, ideas, and sexy dreams, to turn into stories. Some very short to stimulate the readers imagination, such as Jay (a lesbian night club orgy) and Crushed (an interesting way to pass the time in a bar queue). Others much longer, such as Sweets (a must read if you like liquorice) and Treasure (a young man’s dream come true!).

I knew it would be a gamble including the very short tales- as they either really appeal, or really frustrate- but on the whole the feedback from my reader’s has been good. It would also be true to say, the shorter stories were much harder to write than the longer ones, but were a lot of fun to construct around the fantasy’s I gleaned from my sources of research.

So- how much of The Collector did I really collect? Well- that would be telling, but if I haven’t thanked my sources of inspiration already, then I do now!

Extract – The Scottish Fantasy

Stacie gasped as the door opened. The dark shine to the man’s slate eyes as he regarded her and her friend Kate was in danger of taking Stacie’s breath away, and he hadn’t even spoken yet.

Tall, broad, with a tanned face and short spiked hair, a hint of stubble shadowed his square chin. Obviously surprised to see two young women walking through the woods so late on a winter’s afternoon, the ranger ushered them inside his wooden hut.

Introducing himself as Rob—Like Rob Roy! Stacie’s inner voice shouted at her. How perfect is that!—he looked at them enquiringly, ‘I dunna ken what you’re doin’ here, hens.’

Stacie’s brow furrowed. She’d thought that the Scottish spoke English.

Kate laughed as she saw her friend’s confused expression. ‘He means he doesn’t understand what we want, honey. “Dunna ken” means “don’t know” and “hen” is the local term for girl.’ Turning toward the ranger, Kate smiled. ‘This is Stacie, and I’m Kate. Stacie hasn’t got her ear geared into the local accent yet; she’s American.’

‘I guess that means an American accent.’ The ranger spoke so softly, Stacie felt herself melting on the spot. ‘I rather like those.’

Ignoring her friend, whose eyes were on stalks, leaving her in no doubt that Stacie was on an internal lust trip, Kate said, ‘We’re really sorry to bother you so late, but could you tell us where we are? We seem to be on a much longer trail than we intended to be, and we’ve lost the track.’

Rob’s dark eyes bored into her as she spoke. Kate couldn’t decide if their presence mildly amused him, or if he was merely tolerating the interruption to his work.

‘We’ve run out of water as well. Could we fill up our bottles here, please?’

‘It’s a good job you stopped, hen.’ The ranger pulled a map off his cluttered desk and pointed a thick finger at a red dotted line. ‘You’re here, on the all day walk. It’s called that for sound reasons.’

Lost in an erotic daydream, Stacie wasn’t listening to a word he said, just to the sound of his voice; the beautiful, gentle burr of his accent. She judged it fitted neatly half way between Ewan McGregor and Sean Connery.

When Kate had invited her friend over from the States for a couple of weeks exploring the Grampians of Scotland, Stacie had been thrilled. Not only could she catch up with her gorgeous friend and occasional lover, she could visit an area of the world that had always held a fantasy for her. Kilts, burly men in tight white vests, cabers being tossed, heather, whiskey, and mountains topped with snow.

The heather and mountains were a reality sure enough, as were the late night tots of warming whiskey she’d shared with Kate as they snuggled up together in the king-sized bed their Deeside hotel room provided. But until now, in this ranger’s office, hidden away in the woods near the flooded caves of Burn O’Vat, Stacie hadn’t seen anyone who even came close to the Celtic man of her late night fantasies.

Stacie felt mesmerised by the ranger. Despite the coldness of the late winter air he wore no coat, and his green sweater sleeves were rolled back to show arms honed by hard work. Forget kilts, this was as close to perfection as Stacie’s Scottish fantasy was ever going to get.

‘I’ll fill your bottles right enough, but if you’ll heed my advice, you’ll go back on the route you came. Far quicker and safer. It’ll be dark in about two hours.’

‘Thanks, I think we’ll do that.’ Kate watched as he took their empty water bottles over to his sink. His back view was as stunning as his front. The goldfish expression on Stacie’s face told her girlfriend that she was mentally undressing him, and Kate began to do the same. Well aware that Stacie had serious fantasy issues where Scottish men were concerned, Kate wondered just how turned on her friend was. Did she have damp knickers? Were her nipples hard?

As Kate’s thoughts rambled, her own arousal began to tweak up a notch. Perhaps… She took a deep breath. Well, why not?

‘It must be lonely here, on your own all day.’ Kate knew the line was a bit lame, but she didn’t care. A sideways glance at Stacie showed that her lover had understood her intentions, and approved.

Rob didn’t look round. He didn’t need to. He could sense the two sets of eyes on his back; they were almost scorching him. Taking his time to fill the second bottle, the ranger thought the situation through.

Two of them, both hot totty. One a blonde, one a redhead. One English. One American. A tasty combination. Their bulky winter coats, sensible walking trousers and boots didn’t give much away, but he was willing to bet that once all the layers were off, they would be a sight to behold. He could be wrong, he supposed, but maybe…

Rob replied to Kate’s question. ‘I like it well enough, hen. I ken it’s quiet, but I like peace and quiet.’

‘So, you don’t get… lonely, then?’ Kate knew she was being blatant, but she didn’t care. If she could pull this off, it would be the perfect holiday present for her friend. Stacie, her mouth dry with anticipation, stepped forward. Pulling off her gloves to reveal pale hands with violently clashing purple nail-varnished tips, she took the full bottles from Rob’s hands. Making certain her fingers brushed his as she did so.

‘Thank you,’ Stacie purred as she passed one of the bottles to her partner. The tacit standoff that followed as tension rippled through the small office room-cum-workshop was eventually broken by Rob.

‘Would you lassies like something to warm you up before you go?’ His sentence, delivered in a deadpan tone, could have been suggesting something as mundane as sharing of a mug of hot chocolate, but his sparkling eyes hinted at so much more.

Stacie’s pulse quickened as Kate casually replied, ‘Well, if it’s not too much trouble, that would be lovely.’ Another normal sentence, but packed with enough eyelash-fluttering that she might as well have screamed out ‘Fuck us now!’

‘I was about to light the fire.’ Rob knelt at a small grate, already neatly piled with kindling. ‘Perhaps you’d like to lose your jackets for a while. When this takes, this place gets pretty hot.’

The girls’ eyes were drawn to the hopping, spluttering flames. They threw their coats over their backpacks, which they’d already dumped by the front door.

Taking his time with the fire, the ranger didn’t stir from where he crouched until it had taken to his satisfaction, and was smoking nicely up the chimney. Then, with a measured movement, he stood and faced his guests, who with unspoken agreement had divested themselves of far more than just their coats. Somehow Rob managed to keep his face passive as his eyes travelled from the top of each girl’s head down to their toes.

They stood naked. Holding hands. So, lovers in their own right, then. Nice. He smiled. It had been over fifteen years since he’d been with two women at the same time. A memory that kept him warm during the dark winter days and nights as he guarded the woodland and its wildlife.

Deciding against comment, Rob took a silent moment to choose which girl he’d treat rough and which one he’d simply treat. Then, with a pace that neither girl would have associated with the man whose previous movements had been so controlled and steady, he stripped…

The Collector

…What I really loved about this book was the fact it all felt very real. The author herself admitted that there are embellishments on some of the stories, and that some have come purely from her imagination. But what makes it so interesting is the fact that the erotic escapades between the covers of the book could happen.

The tales aren’t about desert islands or exotic places we can only dream about. It could be real. Your neighbour could be doing it. Your colleagues could be doing it. That woman in the supermarket. Anyone, anywhere. And for me, that made it very, very sexy… (Review by Erotica For All)

I was sat in the departures lounge of Heathrow airport when the idea for The Collector came to me. I watched the ever moving crowd, and began to wonder what sort of sexy story each individual would want me to write for them. What would their fantasies be? What kinky secrets of their own would they share given half the chance?

From these musings the outline of The Collector began to form in my mind. A book of stories ‘collected’ by a woman in pursuit of as many sexual exploits as she could.

I wanted to produce a work that could introduce first timers to the erotica genre to its huge variety of styles and tastes; while also giving the connoisseur of erotica some satisfying bursts of kink. The result was a linked anthology- 21 different tales, all of which have a brief introduction from ‘the collector’ about how she acquired them.

The first story in The Collector was written on the aeroplane, only an hour after I’d had the initial idea for the book. Having hastily called a friend to check that the fantasy he had confided in me some years before still ‘did it’ for him, I combined his sexiest dream with my own dream, to one day be a successful writer of erotica – and New Territory was born…

Here’s a little taster for you…

New Territory

It hadn’t seemed significant when he’d noticed which page she’d left the colour supplement open at. Perhaps it wasn’t; coincidences happened all the time. No. He saw now that it was no accident; she had been trying to tell him something.

She was sat at the corner table at the very back of the coffee shop. The armchairs were rather comfortable in that area; he always tried to sit there. As he worked his way along the queue, collecting an almond danish and ordering a frighteningly large black coffee he watched her. Sitting slightly upright, she was partially obscured by a copy of The Observer, her long booted legs curled under the armchair, her red hair framing her small face. She was sipping a cappuccino. He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her develop a foam moustache, and quite uncaring, lick it off with her tongue. He looked away and concentrated on his tray as he pushed towards the till. It was disconcerting to find himself aroused by such a simple act. He paid, collected his sugar and turned to find a seat.

He could have sat anywhere, but she already felt like an itch needing a scratch. He had to talk to her. So what if she told him to piss off, he was only going to ask if he could share the table.

He asked and she inclined her head, not glancing up for more than a second; so he sat. This was new territory for him; he’d never felt such a need to say something, anything. He was the good looking one; the one who never had to say anything. They came to him. Now the silence seemed to be an oppressive presence in itself, like a whole extra person in the room who wasn’t saying anything.

This was ridiculous. He picked up his own paper, folded it to the business pages and took a bite of his pastry, trying not to mind that icing sugar was dusting his new black jacket.

She’d finished her drink. He flirted with the idea of offering to buy her a new one, but quickly dismissed it. He hadn’t even said hello to her. So why did he feel that time was running out? Why did he feel a strange sensation of panic that she was going to leave before he’d heard her voice?

As she unfolded her legs and tided her papers she picked up her large brown rucksack, pulled out some keys and stood in front of him. He looked up into her face. He was being assessed. It was a strange sensation; he usually did the assessing.

‘Are you coming then?’ She spoke very softly, her green eyes shining with a sort of inner power.

He was about to ask if she was sure, but she’d already turned around and was heading for the door.

He was well aware of the fact that he was probably about to make a total fool of himself, but he followed anyway. She walked very quickly; striding along in impossibly high heels. It hadn’t occurred to him until that point that she might be a hooker. What if she was? He’d just walk away. Maybe?

He followed as she turned down a gap between two shops. There was a flight of black iron stairs that led up to a flat above one of them. She stopped. ‘Two things,’ she undid her leather jacket as she spoke, hitching her scarf open to reveal a delicate neck completely unadorned by jewellery, ‘one; I do not do this for money, and two; I am not inviting you in for coffee.’

He nodded, undid his own coat, and followed her up the steps.

The hall was very narrow; it led into a modest kitchen diner, where she placed her paper open the table. Sorting out the magazine, she opened it up as if she was going to settle down to read, but then didn’t.

He hadn’t got as far as making small talk. In fact he hadn’t even got as far as attempting to make small talk, when she took him by the hand and led him into the small living room, sitting him down on the small cream sofa. She knelt and, placing a restraining hand on his leg, undid his shoes and placed them neatly to one side. Then she did the same with his socks. ‘I don’t like naked in socks.’

That was when his body stopped making his hands clammy and his heart beat faster, and sent all excess blood directly to his dick. He’d known he’d been half way to a hard-on already, but now there was no disguising the fact.

‘You would be a Coldplay man, or maybe Keane? Dido?’ She stood by the tiny stereo.

‘Dido.’

She nodded, pressed buttons and waited as the haunting notes built up to the opening number.

He should do something. He tried to stand, but she just raised her hand, and he quickly sat down again. Maybe this wasn’t his show; new territory.

She was standing about two metres away from him. Her jacket had already hit the floor, and he caught his breath as he watched her long slim fingers begin to undo the buttons of her white blouse. She looked straight at him the whole time; each movement was in time to the music, and he found himself wishing that he’d chosen something with a faster pace.

His throat felt dry as she revealed a beautiful cream bra. He could see her nipples, hard and dark, pressing against the thin lace. He started to wonder how wet she would be, and then stopped himself; if he started to think like that he’d shoot his load before he even got his trousers off; if that was her intention. He’d never felt so unsure of himself as she stepped out of her suede skirt, letting it drop over her boots.

Now he desperately wanted to touch. The smooth shoulders that had just been revealed cried out to be caressed. Anyway, he was becoming uncomfortable; his cock was digging into his waistband, as it struggled to force itself from his jeans unaided. He should say something, but he didn’t want to break the spell.

She stopped. He stared at the floor by her feet and worked his eyes slowly upwards. He tried to imprint the vision before him onto his brain inch by inch. High heeled boots; beige. Soft pale flesh emerging from lace hold ups; cream. Slightly see-through French knickers; cream. ‘Keep going; try to drag your eyes away from the neat silhouetted triangle your eyes can just make out’, he thought to himself as he swallowed, continuing his inventory. A flat stomach with a neat belly button. A cream lace bra encasing neatly rounded breasts which poked tantalisingly over the top. He took a deep breath and looked at her face. Small features, bobbed red hair, deep green eyes which gave absolutely nothing away.

The room was charged with electricity; so enticing, so dangerous. She moved forward and gestured for him to stand. He hadn’t been able to suppress his groan as he stood. His stomach felt strange and his dick ached to be free from its confinement.

He waited, doing nothing. He didn’t know what to do, so he let her take control; keep control. She took his belt first; pulling it out very slowly, loop by loop. She smoothed the brown leather between her fingers. ‘I like belts’. That was all she said, but he suddenly realised that he wanted to hit her with it. He needed to yank down her knickers and punish her for being perfect.

She undid his shirt next. His arms hung against his sides. He wanted to touch so badly, but he sensed that that would screw things up. This ritual, so painfully slow, was possibly the most erotic thing he’d ever seen.

When she kissed his nipples he’d yelled. It was like someone placing an ice cube down his front on a scolding day; wonderful, but totally agonising. Her mouth worked its way across his tanned chest. His hands automatically went to hold her face, but she took hold of them and kept them firmly by his sides, whilst her teeth began to graze the skin above his jeans waist band.

He’d read about women who could undo jean flies with just their teeth, but had dismissed them as pornographic fantasy. It appeared that he was wrong. She had begun to quiver then. Perhaps she was real after all and not some incredible apparition with iron clad self control. He watched amazed as she came in front of him, without a single finger being laid on her. Power; she’d made him want her, and that alone had got her off…

What a Weekend!

This weekend was always going to be a fun one. Two erotica-related events were afoot: the More Bang Reading Slam on Friday night at Sh! Portobello, and K D Grace’s book launch for Body Temperature and Rising on Saturday night at Sh! Hoxton. Sounds good already, right? Well, let’s just say it far exceeded expectations.

Friday

My OH and I dashed into our London hotel, got ready then headed out to Portobello, complete with delicious cupcakes (made by my OH, not by me). There was just time for a quick drink in the pub with Lexie Bay and her OH, then it was time for the main event! Hosted by K D Grace and Sarah Berry, the event had several aims:

To be a fun smutty evening
A way for several erotic writers and poets to showcase their work
To raise some cash for a worthy charity

All these aims were achieved, and then some! Each reading was timed at five minutes, and woe betide any reader that should go over the time limit – Ms. Kay Jaybee was on hand with a spanking paddle to punish any wrongdoers!

We were treated to prose, poetry and performance from the following:

Kay Jaybee (a super rendition from her naughty anthology, The Collector)
Lexie Bay (a smutty yet humorous snippet from her story, Taken with Consent, from Uniform Behaviour)
Yours Truly (I read out a dirty bit from my story Caught in the Act, from Immoral Views)
The Dragon King’s Daughter (a super piece of poetry about masturbation)
Liz Coldwell (a yummy m/m snippet from her novella, Stranded in Paradise)
Annie Player (two poems – one nice, and one deliciously naughty)
Sarah Berry (a totally filthy rewrite of the old song, All that Jazz. I’ll just tell you she retitled it All that Jizz and leave the rest to your imagination. 😉 )
Janine Ashbless (a kinky snippet from her newly released vampire novel, Red Grow the Roses)
Ernesto Sarezale (a funny yet sexy poem read in his yummy accent, with some undressing thrown in – can’t be bad!)
Lynn Mann (who treated us to a deliciously dark reading from a friend’s work)
Meg Philip (a deeply naughty snippet from a true story – so good that she consented to be spanked just so we could hear what happened next!)

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, I got to meet some people in the flesh that I’d only ever corresponded with via email, and some completely new people. That, coupled with spending some time with my writing buddies, made for a splendid evening. And yet, there was more to come….

Saturday

After a day pounding London’s pavements, OH and I did another zip across London, got cleaned up at headed to Sh! Hoxton. Another sneaky drink was had in the Bluu Bar next door, before nabbing seats in the pink palace of Sh!, ready for K D Grace’s launch. And… what a launch! There was more fizz, more cupcakes (though unsurprisingly, the ones my OH made disappeared the night before – no leftovers!), goodies, and great company. Much of the crowd from Friday’s festivities were there, and my buddy Victoria Blisse and her lovely hubby also joined us – so it was a smut fest indeed!

K D treated us to several snippets from her novel, Body Temperature and Rising, as well as running a raffle, doing a Q&A and showing off some superb artwork – three artists had created pieces of work based on scenes from the book.

All in all, it was another successful evening. The Sh! Ladiez were awesome, the venue was fab and K D was signing books left, right and centre!

We then mooched over to a restaurant nearby to continue the festivities. Much chat and laughter ensued, but, as is always the case, time runs away with us and it was time to head back to our hotels for the evening.

I’m not quite as sad as usual to leave my writing buddies. Want to know why? Because I’ll see most of them again this weekend at Eroticon 2012! Let more smut and silliness ensue!

Yes – it’s a wonder I haven’t exploded because on top of all that excitement, I’ve also had a super review of my spooky lesbian tale, Weekend at Wilderhope Manor, appeared on the FRONT COVER of Safeword Magazine and gained a silver star on All Romance eBooks for my new release, The Cottage in the Woods, as well as getting a fab first review of the same book!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to squeeeeee in the corner. Yes, I said squee. 😉

A Pride Reading at Sh! Hoxton

As most of you know, Kay Jaybee and I descended on Sh! Hoxton on Saturday evening to regale the audience with readings from a selection of our gay and lesbian titles. And what a fabulous evening it was! The lovely Jo did her introductory bits and Kay took to the pink seat and told us a naughty tale from Xcite’s Boy Fun anthology which went down a storm. The Basic Rules of Anal Sex was delivered only after we’d been given a copy of said rules to accompany the deliciously dirty story.

Next up was yours truly with my tale from Ravenous Romance anthology I Kissed A Girl. Show Me Yours is a sexy story about two girls and their various sex toys and we had a good giggle as just as I was talking about a buzzing Rampant Rabbit, some crazy vibrating noises came from the upstairs of the store – talk about sound effects!

Then it was over to Kay again who read another yummy m/m story to us from her lush book, The Collector (which you should totally read, it’s HAWT).

My stage time was concluded with a snippet from my f/f erotic romance, Bite with

Height. I was worried that the audience had gone deadly silent. I thought perhaps I’d sent them to sleep, but I have it on very good authority that they were merely hanging onto my every word, as the section I’d chosen to read was particularly tense. The tale is too long to read in its entirety, but I hope I whetted enough appetites that people will dash and buy the eBook to find out what else happens!

Ms. Jaybee concluded proceedings with a bonus story from The Collector at the request of one Jacqueline Applebee, who was in attendance. Jo then wrapped everything up and presented Kay and I with a little present from the Sh! Girlz (thanks, ladiez!).

Sadly, Kay wasn’t able to join us for dinner, but myself, my OH, K D Grace and her lovely hubby and Jacqueline Applebee retired to an eatery just around the corner from Sh! to continue the fun. I enjoy that part of the evening just as much as the readings because it means there’s lots more chat to be had, and since I hadn’t really had chance to speak to Jacqueline Applebee much beforehand, it was great to get to know her a little. We had some writer chat, and quite the discussion on comic book movies and the abundance of totty they’ve been filled with this year.

Overall, a very fun evening! Can’t wait to do it all again! 🙂 I did mention a potential Seducing the Myth reading to Jo… so watch this space!
