2014 Round Up!

Hi everyone,

I hope those of you that celebrate had a wonderful Christmas and have enjoyed some rest and relaxation šŸ™‚

2014 started off pretty well for me, though the last few months have been tough personally, so I definitely think it’s a good idea for me to reflect on what I’ve achieved in spite of the tough stuff šŸ˜‰

  • I’ve had 32 publications, which is actually 2 more than 2013, so it’s not all bad! šŸ˜‰
  • My word count is down on last year, but I still achieved a whopping 249,552 words, which includes published work, works in progress, submitted works and so on. I’m still very proud of that result!
  • I won my first award – woohoo! My erotic short story, A Taste of Rome, won a Golden Ankh award from Ellora’s Cave. How cool is that?
  • I’ve had numerous books and collections hit bestseller lists on Amazon and All Romance eBooks, most recently, Brit Boys: On Boys.
  • My second novel was released – my paranormal thriller/mystery, Pack of Lies. And at 96k, it’s a book you can really get your teeth into.

I’ve had varying lengths of work published this year, and although I haven’t written another novel (unless you count finishing Pack of Lies in the early part of the year), I’ve still had at least one release every month. So I’m definitely not beating myself up!

I’ve already got stuff lined up for next year – in fact, my next release is in one week’s time! Look out for A Different Kind of Cosplay šŸ˜‰ After that, I have lots planned, another boxed set, the solo release of Desert Heat (as Unconditional Surrender goes out of print tomorrow), a follow up to Desert Heat (which readers have asked for – so I’m counting that as another achievement!), some anthology appearances… yes, there’s already lots in the pipeline! I also plan to get started on another novel length work in the early part of 2015, so let’s hope nothing conspires against me. I’m also still working on a co-author project which is moving into the ending stages, so that may well see the light of day in 2015. It’s been so much fun šŸ™‚

So… here’s to a fantastic 2015!

Happy New Year,

Character Interview with Isaac from Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

Today, Iā€™m interviewing Isaac Adams, and letting him share a little more about himself with you.

packoflies01Tell us a little bit about your background.

Yeah, okay. Iā€™m Isaac Adams, and Iā€™m a doctor. Iā€™m from Eyam, in Derbyshire, where Iā€™ve lived all my life. Which is how long, you say? *pauses* oh, okay, you know, do you? Well then, I was born in 1605, so Iā€™ll let you do the maths. I also change into a huge wolf once a month. Besides that, Iā€™m a pretty simple guy.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

That Iā€™m so trusting. Not that trusting people is a bad thing, necessarily, but a lot of things have happened just lately that made me realise that although you think you know a person well enough to trust them, itā€™s not necessarily true. Iā€™m learning to be more cautious, more guarded.

What first attracted you to your love interest?

His eyes. The most amazing green Iā€™ve ever seen. *awkward silence* I have nothing more to say on this subject.

Whatā€™s the best bit about the book your author wrote about you?

All the parts where I was having a wonderful time.

Whatā€™s the worst bit about the book your author wrote about you?

All the parts where I wasnā€™t having a wonderful time.

Where do you see yourself in five yearsā€™ time?

Right here, exactly where you left me. Oh, you want more detail? Canā€™t a guy have his privacy? Apparently not. Well, Iā€™d like to see myself happy. I donā€™t think thatā€™s too much to ask.

*****

Pack of LiesBlurb:

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and are happy to keep their secret. But their privacy comes at a costā€”neither brother has taken a lover in almost four hundred years.

Then at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be an animal. A large, vicious animal. Even the brothersā€™ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts. Meanwhile Isaac is smitten by a handsome newcomer to the village, while a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

As they indulge their lust, they must clear their names and convince their neighbours that they arenā€™t also letting their baser instincts out to play.

Inside Scoop:Ā  This book contains sizzling scenes of both M/M and M/F sex.

Character Interview with Matthew from Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

Today, Iā€™m interviewing Matthew Adams, and letting him share a little more about himself with you.

Tell us a little bit about your background.

Given Iā€™m over four hundred years old, Iā€™ll have to keep it brief, otherwise we could be here a very long time. I trust this is all in complete confidence, yes? If not, then please ignore the part about my age. Okay, well, as long youā€™re sure.

My name is Matthew Adams and Iā€™m a werewolf. I was born in 1600, and have lived in Eyam for all of my very long life. I love it, and canā€™t imagine living anywhere else. Iā€™ve had a variety of jobs, including as a policeman, which I did for a very long time. Iā€™ve also fought in more wars than I care to remember. Iā€™m quite happy now working in the local pub and doing odd jobs in the villageā€”sort of a semi-retirement.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Donā€™t tell Isaac I said this, because heā€™ll laugh and wonā€™t believe me. But Iā€™d probably change my quick temper. Itā€™s silly for someone whoā€™s been around as long as me, but I do anger quite quickly, especially if someone I care about is involved.

What first attracted you to your love interest?

I know this is going to sound really shallow, but to start with it was her looks. I first saw her in the local pub and thought she was gorgeous. As soon as I started speaking to her, though, I quickly realised that there was a lot more to her than being pretty.

Whatā€™s the best bit about the book your author wrote about you?

Would it be really bad if I said my sex scenes? It would? Oh, okay. Well then, Iā€™d have to say the way sheā€™s portrayed the village Iā€™ve lived all my life.

Whatā€™s the worst bit about the book your author wrote about you?

I canā€™t really say, because itā€™ll give away a major part of the plot, and Lucy will throttle me. She may be a lot smaller than me, but she can be scary!

Where do you see yourself in five yearsā€™ time?

Still living in the village, of course, but hopefully settled down with a wonderful woman and an interesting future to look forward to.

Casting My Characters for Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

packoflies02Hi everyone,

Casting my characters in my own mind isnā€™t something I always do. As well as novels, I write a lot of short stories and novellas, so itā€™s not always necessary. Sometimes I donā€™t spend enough time with characters to build up an image of what they look likeā€”itā€™s more about what they do.

However, for Pack of Lies, I knew all along it was going to be a book with a large word count, so I needed to keep a good grasp on my characters to make sure I didnā€™t end up with any inconsistencies. Also, I feel if I have a really good feel for what my characters look like and behave like, then my readers will too, and itā€™ll hopefully make the story so much more real.

It didnā€™t take long for me to work out who Iā€™d have playing my sexy werewolf boys if the novel ever got made into a film (ahh, a girl can dream!). The delectable Hugh Jackman would be perfect for Matthew Adams, the older werewolf brother. Heā€™s big, can look menacing, and yet is gorgeous and women would certainly enjoy looking at him.

Taylor Kitsch would be ideal for the younger werewolf brother, Isaac Adams. Heā€™s handsome and has a more playful vibe about him. Iā€™ve since seen him play a gay character in The Normal Heart so thatā€™s just perfectā€”he can definitely ā€œactā€ gay, if you see what I mean!

Strangely, I didnā€™t have an actress in mind for Matthewā€™s love interest, Sally. Perhaps itā€™s because I like my male eye candy better!

Isaacā€™s love interest, Nathaniel, is a character I also cast in my mind. Aussie actor Daniel Feurriegel would play Nathaniel. He played a gay character in Spartacus, so I know he can also ā€œactā€ gay very successfully, and damn, I think theyā€™d look good together šŸ˜‰

I havenā€™t mentally cast any of the more minor characters, so Iā€™ll leave that up to the film studio šŸ˜‰

My NaNoWriMo Novel – Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

packoflies02Hi everyone,

If youā€™d have said to me two years agoā€”maybe even just a year agoā€”that I would ā€œwinā€ NaNoWriMo, Iā€™d have laughed at you. For those of you that donā€™t know, NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a yearly challenge which takes place in November. Writers sign up via the website and challenge themselves to write 50,000 words in a monthā€”in order words, a novel. Or at least a good chunk of one. They’ll all be hard at it even as you read this post. Sadly, I’m not able to take part this year.

Iā€™m not a fast writer, but then nor am I a slow one. I sit comfortably somewhere in the middle. But for some reason, last year I decided I was going to give NaNoWriMo a go. Iā€™d already done a ton of research for the novel I intended to work on next, all I needed to do was getting the planning done and Iā€™d be ready to go. And so, having worked out that Iā€™d have to write 2,500 per day for twenty days (I donā€™t work weekends, so I had to remove weekend days from the equation), I figured it was still achievable.

Come the 1st of November I was signed up, had everything planned out and once I opened that Word document, I quickly started to fill it with words. Iā€™m a bit of a word count watcher when I write, anyway, so the only difference was, rather than simply updating the widget in my websiteā€™s sidebar, I would also update on the NaNoWriMo website. I started off really well, and was achieving my target each day. Of course, I dropped behind my ā€œbuddiesā€ at weekends, but soon caught up again on weekdays.

I have to admit, it was addictive. Granted, Iā€™d already done an awful lot of hard work before opening that Word document, but it didnā€™t mean the writing was easy, especially as it was the most complex piece of work Iā€™d written to date. But somehow, come the 29th November (the 30th was a Saturday, and so the 29th was my finish date), I did it. I hopped over that 50,000 word mark, copied and pasted the text into the NaNoWriMo site to get it validated, and received my winnerā€™s certificate and badge. It was a fantastic feelingā€”Iā€™d done it!

However, the novel was far from finished. The challenge had really broken the back of it, but I knew I still had a long way to go. I didnā€™t stop writing, but I admit from the 50k mark until the end was a lot slower going because I didnā€™t have that urgency pushing me to write faster. Not to mention during November, Iā€™d rejigged my days to make writing my priority.

Finally, in the New Year of 2014, I finished the book. It was almost twice the length it had been at the end of Novemberā€”95,000 words. So personally, I still think I did pretty damn well to write it in that period of time, and Iā€™m delighted to see it out there for people to read and hopefully enjoy.

Planning Pack of Lies (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

Hi everyone,

packoflies01If youā€™ve been following the other posts about this book, youā€™ll know I did rather a lot of research for this book. As a result, there was a lot of planning to do, too! I had to make sense of all the research Iā€™d done, figure out what parts of it were needed, what was superfluous to requirements, how everything fitted together. There was lots to weave into the bookā€”the most complex Iā€™ve written to dateā€”historical elements, contemporary elements, fact, fiction, settings, lies, intrigue, two main characters, lots of secondary characters, romance, hot sex… the list goes on.

Letā€™s just say itā€™s a good job I started a new A4 notebook for this project šŸ˜‰ This is not a complaint, I hasten to add. I actually had a really fantastic time doing all the preparation for writing this novel, and with such a complex storyline, it was necessary. It also meant that come November 2013, when I started writing the book, Iā€™d have more chance of getting in the necessary word count each day in order to ā€œwinā€ NaNoWriMoā€”but thatā€™s for the next post. Fortunately, my epic planning worked, as here I am with a completed and published novel!

Check out the photos on my Pinterest board: http://www.pinterest.com/cw1985/pack-of-lies/

The book has been incredibly well received so far, with lots of four and five star reviewsā€”so if youā€™re a paranormal romance fan, I hope youā€™ll check it out!
