The fabulous Wendi Zwaduk is here today, telling us all about her characters, Torin and Zoe, who have appeared in both Smut in the City and Smut Alfresco. Take it away, Wendi…
Torin and Zoe… A Love Story
First, I want to thank Lucy for having me here to talk about my characters. Always fun to hang out with you!! Plus its fun to talk about Zoe and Torin.
Zoe and Torin are from my stories in the Smut in the City Anthology and Smut Alfresco, but they actually started out before both stories. Let me tell you about them.
I had this scene, just one really, of these two people stuck in an elevator. She’s freaking out and he’s a rock star. That’s not why she’s freaking out. She’s claustrophobic. She also knows him because they had a relationship before the elevator scene. I didn’t have anything other than that scene, so I just jotted it down and let them percolate. When they wanted to talk, I’d listen.
I’m one of those writers that will see a sub call and the idea will right then spark. That’s what happened when I saw the call for SITC. Torin and Zoe came out of hiding and started talking. I wrote down their back story, then went back to the elevator. Turns out, the elevator scene was just a snippet (like I figured) and the relationship was much more complicated. I’d also seen an apartment complex in Cleveland, right off Lake Erie, that was the perfect setting for their reuniting. I forgot to mention, theirs, like a lot of my work, is a second chance romance. Yes, they’re complicated people.
So who are they? Zoe is the submissive and Torin is her dom, but they don’t live the lifestyle 24/7. They also aren’t hardcore like some couples and that’s okay for them. SITC let them work through some issues they had and Alfresco was the way for them to find out if the love they shared could last. And there’s sex among the daisies—something I’d love to do. I would.
I’ve not written the genesis of their relationship, but I’d like to. One of these days, or maybe even for a future Smut anthology, I’ll do it. I love these two and letting them tell how they got together in the first place feels like it’s the right thing to do…one of these days.
Here’s a snippet from Private Hideaway, from Smut Alfresco:
“Sixty-five. Remember that number.”
“Why?”
“That,” he inched the Jeep forward, “is our lot number.” Torin drove down the winding path to a secluded area of the campground. No other campers or vehicles were visible. He pulled into a gravel path next to a log cabin. Bright orange mums and daisies blossomed in front of the weathered grey building. “There. We’re off the grid. Kind of.” He whipped out a set of keys. “These are the keys to our private hideaway. No one will bother us because no one knows we’re here. We’ve got a dock and a whole open field down the hill a little ways. Plus, I have a surprise for you.”
Zoe rolled her eyes. They were standing on front of a wooden cottage in the middle of a deserted campground. What possible surprises could he have up his sleeve?
Torin slipped out of the vehicle and walked out of her line of sight. Within moments, he returned with a huge bouquet of roses. “These are for you, my love.”
“Thank you.” She buried her face in the sweet crimson blossoms. “You know how much I love these.” Zoe wrapped her free arm around his waist. “Question. How do you know we won’t be interrupted? We’ve had the paparazzi on our tails for the last six months.”
“I know and I’m sorry.” Torin offered his hand. “I want to go for a walk.”
She opened her mouth to protest, but he silenced her with a kiss. Zoe melted into his touch, threading her arms around his neck. His tongue tangled with hers. Torin hoisted her off the packed earth, then carried her into the cabin. The door slapped on the wall and the crack vibrated the tiny building. His footsteps thumped on the hardwood floor. A large bed, clad in fresh white sheets sat in the corner of the quaint room.
“Perfect.” Torin crossed the room to the bed. “I can’t wait.” He smoothed her skirt out of the way, then grabbed the strings at the sides of her panties. “Need you, babe.”
