Evil Plans and Stuff…

Evil Plans and StuffYou like my notebook? Me too… it was a gift from the lovely Kay Jaybee and when I was thinking about writing this blog post, I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of it to include. It seemed fitting, somehow 😉

So, I’ve been mega busy just lately with various projects on the Writer Marketing Services side of things, and have also been squeezing in some serious writing time, too. As a result, I haven’t posted an update on here for a while, so I thought I would let you in on a few exciting bits of news…

Firstly, I just finished (literally, this evening) the first draft of a long short story (hey, almost 12k is long for me) which will be the start of a series, if it’s accepted. I’m aiming it at a particular publisher, who I won’t name just in case I jinx it! But rest assured, you will have more information as and when there’s anything to tell. It’s called A Taste of London, and I think the title gives you a fair hint as to what it might be about. Want to know more? Check out the Pinterest board I created for it.

Secondly, there’s lots of news concerning uniforms! Mmm, my favourite! Anyway, I found out recently that Uniform Behaviour is going to be available in paperback from the end of August, woohoo! I’m told it will be available worldwide, but at the moment, there’s only a pre-order link up on Amazon UK, so feel free to place your order, or if you’re feeling like giving the book some “like” and tag love, I’ll be forever grateful.

Another piece of uniform-related news – I just had an email from Kristina Wright to say that my short erotic romance story, Passing Out Passion was accepted for her upcoming Duty & Desire: Military Erotic Romance anthology, which will be coming out in the autumn. Hurrah! 😀

Finally, I just wanted to post a quick reminder about the two anthologies I’m co-editing with Victoria Blisse. We’re still seeking submissions for Smut by the Sea (closing date 1st June) and Smut in the City (closing date 1st August). We’re hoping to launch the books (they’ll be available in print, too) at The Book Show in Luton in September. Check out the website for more details. It sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic event!

Book Review: Carnal Machines – Steampunk Erotica by D. L. King (ed.)

Article first published as Book Review: Carnal Machines: Steampunk Erotica Edited by D. L. King on Blogcritics.

Carnal MachinesI had no idea what to expect when I picked up Carnal Machines. I confess that before reading the foreword, I wasn’t 100% sure what steampunk was – though it turned out that I was pretty much right in my thinking. And for those of you that don’t know, in brief the genre is stories based in the Victorian era with an emphasis on inventions and machinery, i.e. steam-powered.

Now that’s cleared up, on to the review…

When I started reading Carnal Machines I quickly realised that the title was very literal. I knew that the machinery would be involved, obviously, but I wasn’t expecting, well, sex machines. There are naughty gadgets left, right and centre in this book – it’s a Victorian version of a sex toy shop!

The book really captures what it was to be alive in Victorian times – worried about being proper, sullied reputations – and sex. Carnal Machines takes what we know about that repressed time and flings open the doors. It’s always been hinted that the Victorians were in fact sex mad, probably due to the ‘forbidden’ nature of the act, and this anthology really plays on that. You can almost imagine yourself being transported back to a simpler time where polite society frowned upon naughtiness, so people did it in secret.

There are tales about the curing of hysterical women, using sexual energy to power machines, steam powered strap ons and much more. It’s a really good fun, well written anthology which is completely different to anything I’ve ever read before.

One of my favourite stories was Doctor Watson Makes A House Call, purely because I’m a fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories and thought this was a brilliant take on it. The very idea of the supposedly prim and proper Watson using sexual aids on a woman to ‘cure’ her was excellent.

So, if you’re looking something sexy and very different, look no further. Carnal Machines is a decadent and unique read that’s well worth adding to your to be read list.

Happy Monday!

Hi everyone! Well, it’s not even lunchtime on a Monday and already it’s shaping up to be an exciting week! After last week’s holiday (tons of photos on Facebook for those who are interested) I’m now busily catching up on various things to do with my writing as well as doing client work. But this morning’s excitement has been caused by the following:

A Bit of Rough

My first Noble Romance publication, A Bit of Rough, is now available! I’m really excited to be working with Noble who so far have been great. And, as you can see, they do great covers! *rawr* Find out more about A Bit of Rough here, or go directly to its page on Noble Romance and get your grubby hands on it. It’s also on Goodreads, so don’t forget to add it to your bookshelves!

Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance

Secondly, my author copy of Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance arrived! My first Cleis Press publication, edited by Kristina Wright. My story, Succubus Comes Home features with stories from greats such as Justine Elyot, Shanna Germain, Saskia Walker, Nikki Magennis and Kate Pearce to name but a few – so I’m incredibly excited and honoured to be a part of it. I can’t wait to start reading! I believe it’s widely available in the States already, but UK peeps will have to wait until later in the month, but you can pre-order on Amazon.

Now, where are my copies of Best of Both? *taps foot impatiently*

Happy Monday, everyone!
