Interview: Nancy Corrigan

Tell us about yourself. Both your writing self and your non-writing self. What are your interests and hobbies? Do you have a day job, etc?

First the basics, I’m married to my college sweetheart and have 3 wonderful children. I have a boxer who is convinced she’s a lap dog, a senior citizen cat who demands her needs are met immediately and a ball python. My passions…hmmm, tattoos (I have 7), classic cars and music (hard rock to blues).

Unexpected Find is my debut release with Ellora’s Cave. When not writing, I work as a chemist in a pharmaceutical lab.

Give us the background on your latest release.

The idea for this series grew from my passion for animals (big cats in particular) along with the influence of Laurann Dohner’s New Species series and Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld. I was fascinated by the idea of having the “demons” sharing the Lords bodies and I love the passion in EC’s books. The two combined into the Royals, multi-feline shifters who house animal spirits and are doubly driven by their primal instincts.

How did you get started with writing? And what was your route to publication like?

I never actually meant to start writing but Rafe and Jasmine’s story just wouldn’t leave me. I had to write it.

My road to publication was a blessing I didn’t expect. My story was picked out of the slush pile at Ellora’s cave and the rest is history.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently splitting my time between book 3 of the Royal Pride and book 1 of a new series for Ellora’s.

Do you have a particular Muse for your writing? Do any of your characters bear startling resemblances to sexy celebrities or people you admire?

No Muse. And yes, my characters are influenced by many things—celebrities, sexy photos on Facebook, people I know or see on the street.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Both writing-wise and non-writing-wise?

Still writing. Although I never planned to write, I love it. It’s become my passion and now that I’ve allowed this world to form in my mind, there are all these hot, alpha men who want their story told.

Non-writing wise, my children will be in high school so I’m sure they’ll keep me busy.

And now for some silly questions…

Muscled or skinny? Muscled

Tall or short? Tall

Boxers or briefs? Boxers or commando-lol

Moustache or beard? beard

Long hair or shaven head? Oh, that’s a tough one…depends on the man. Love both!

Tattoos or piercings? Tattoos

Intelligent or funny? Intelligent

Blond, brunette or red head? Blond

Hottest celebrity (tell us why, if you like)? Henry Cavill

Top same-sex crush (or opposite sex if you already like same-sex!) Kelly Ripa

Most disliked celebrity (tell us why, if you like)

Favourite food? Pizza

Favourite book (tell us why, if you like) Oh so many…New Species series, Christine Feehan’s Dark series and…I could keep going on and on. I love to read.

Favourite place in the world (tell us why, if you like) Anywhere my family is.

Excerpt

The butterflies in her belly took flight. The man was a romantic. “You know, I’m starting to enjoy the odd way you talk. It makes me feel as if I walked into a world where princesses wait to be swept away by their knight in shining armor.”

He grinned, the sad look replaced by amusement. Releasing her hands, he slid his around her waist. “You would make a beautiful princess.”

“Would I?”

“One to be fought for.” He twirled a lock of her hair around a finger. “What about me? Would I fill the role of your knight in shining armor?”

She smiled, completely charmed by this man. She ran her hands over his chest, luxuriated in the layers of muscle under her palms. “I don’t know if any horse would be able to carry you for long. I see you more as a warrior, a conqueror.”

“One who demands the bonny ladies as his reward after a battle?” He swept her into his arms. She gasped and grabbed his shoulders. Lust heated his eyes as he mapped her face. “Oh yes, I like this fantasy and in it I get to choose you as my booty.” He bent his head closer so his golden eyes filled her vision. “I think I might keep you, Jasmine.”

Her breath hitched. “I think you have a wild imagination.”

“Or a hopeful one.” He eased back but watched her with that focused gaze she was starting to associate with him. “I want you.”

The lust-hazed glint to his eyes told her exactly what he wanted. For once in her life, she did too—but it couldn’t happen. She had responsibilities. Spontaneity and motherhood did not mesh. The little episode in Josh’s office proved that. She would’ve been mortified if Sara walked in while they were having sex. Everyone in town would’ve known within the hour. The other playgroup moms would find out, maybe shun her or at least look at her negatively. No. Any liaisons she had would have to be planned and kept hidden.

She licked her upper lip. “I haven’t had sex in a really long time, Rafe.” She dropped her gaze and stared at his chin. “What we did tonight wasn’t like me either. I’m not like that. Easy.”

He brushed his lips over her forehead. “I know.” He set her on her feet and took her hand. “Come, let’s get you home.”

She walked with him around the side of the building to the parking lot. He led her right in the direction of her car, not even pausing by the other ones or asking where she’d parked. A feeling of unease slithered over her. She stopped and tugged on his arm. He looked at her with scrunched brows.

She jerked her chin toward her car. “Why do you think I parked there?”

He ran a hand through his hair, glanced toward the cluster of vehicles then back to her. “Your keys. You drive a Ford and I figured you’d be parked by a light.”

Intuitive or something more? Doubt crept into her mind and fed the apprehension. She pointed across the lot to the cars near the front door. “Why not think I parked there?”

A sheltered mask slid over the warm and open expression he’d worn since she’d met him. The first trickling of fear snaked into her consciousness and her earlier suspicion came back.

He shook his head and the hard look disappeared. Using the hand he held, he tucked her against his side. “I am sorry, Jasmine. I just assumed that since you arrived so late you would’ve been forced to park as far away as I did.”

He gave her another reassuring squeeze and led her toward the other side of the lot.

She stopped him after a few feet. Embarrassment rose. Just because she was worried about Tony’s murder and whether or not the killer had been looking for money or a kid he could sell didn’t mean she had to think everyone she met was a criminal or a rogue shifter. She couldn’t believe she was reading so much into his actions, but paranoia had become a part of her personality. She questioned everybody’s motives. She had to.

“No, you were right. I was just curious, I guess. You’re a very observant man.”

He looked at her, the careful mask back on. “It’s second nature, I suppose. A consequence of my…job.”

“Really? What do you do?”

“Security,” he grumbled and led her forward.

She considered that. It fit. She could easily see him working as a bodyguard for some important official or maybe a rock star. She grinned at the possibilities.

Before she knew it, they were at her car. She unlocked the door but Rafe planted his hands on either side of her body and caged her in. He leaned against her back and the evidence of his arousal pressed into her. With his mouth near her ear, he whispered, “I don’t want to let you go.”

The desire in his voice stirred hers back to life. She turned in his arms. Her reaction to Rafe wasn’t normal for her but she couldn’t deny it. Instant lust. She knew that’s all it was, even if he claimed it was more, but she’d been without a man for so long. This feeling was one she’d forgotten about. The crazy ‘nothing else matters’ one that made her want to roll around naked and sweaty with him until she sated the lust.

He nudged against her neck, urging her to accept him. Unable to resist, she bent her head and relished the nipping bites along her jaw. He fisted her hair and tugged, tearing a moan from her throat. He swallowed the sound with his mouth over hers. She opened for him, drew him in and their tongues twined and rolled. Slow at first, then with a growing hunger that left her breathless. She squirmed in his arms, desperate for the relief he could give.

He released the firm grip on her hair, swept his hands down her back and over her sides. With his fingers digging into her hips, he pulled her closer. The hard length of his erection pressed into her belly but he made no move to touch her more intimately. Didn’t slip his fingers into her panties. Didn’t counter the thumping in her clit. Didn’t ease the unbearable ache. He simply wrapped her in his arms and continued to kiss her.

After a long moment, he eased the tight embrace and skimmed the fingers that had brought her to orgasm a few minutes ago over her body. Up her spine, down her arms. He moved them to match the quicker pace his mouth took, but he didn’t come close to her breasts or her sex. And not touching her intimately heightened her arousal, built the anticipation. She had never wanted to have sex more than right in this moment.

She wasn’t sure how long they kissed but he finally pulled back and stared into her eyes.

“Invite me home, Jasmine.”

An Interview with Victoria Blisse

Please welcome my friend, fellow Northern Bird, fellow Brit Babe, fellow editor and co-author, Victoria Blisse. Wow, we do a lot together, don’t we? It must be a good sign that we’re not sick of each other yet 😉 Anyway, I interviewed Victoria about herself, her writing, her latest release and more, so check it out.

1. Tell us about yourself. Both your writing self and your non-writing self. What are your interests and hobbies? Do you have a day job, etc?

Okay, I’m Victoria Blisse. I love to bake, sew and read when I’m not writing and when I am writing I’m serving up sexy stories about Rubenesque beauties.  Writing is my life, as is being a wife and a mum. My guilty love is Strictly Come Dancing and if you want to buy me a sweet treat I love Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Mmm, yum.

2. Give us the background on your latest release.

Sharing Nicely features not one but two hot billionaires with a curvy cutie who won’t take no for an answer. She gets these two sworn enemies to share nicely and both spend one night with her.

It was a fun novel to write and gave me an opportunity to write about a masquerade ball, something I’m fascinated by.

3. How did you get started with writing? And what was your route to publication like?

I’ve always written, well, since I was old enough to know how to. I’ve written stories and poems forever and got erotic about 12 years ago. I haven’t looked back since! I was first published in 2006 and now have over 50 stories out there and published ranging from short stories to novels.

4.  What are you currently working on?

I’m editing up a novella which I’m hoping to extend into a novel. Originally I wrote the novella in a weekend (yeah, really!) and I’m enjoying going back over it and expanding on it. The working title is Unscripted Desires and the story is set in a theatre.

5.  Do you have a particular Muse for your writing? Do any of your characters bear startling resemblances to sexy celebrities or people you admire?

I pick up inspiration everywhere and anywhere, often when I’m sitting on a bus or train, actually. My WIP has a hero who’s very similar in my mind to John Simm, better known as The Master from Doctor Who. Mmm, tasty.

6.  Where do you see yourself in five years? Both writing-wise and non-writing-wise?

In five years time I’ll have a daughter who’s finished secondary school, wow. I would like to see me still writing, being published and keeping my readers happy.

I love my life just as it is.

And now for some silly questions…

Muscled or skinny?   Love me some skinny goodness. Mmm.

Tall or short? Whichever way he comes. 😉

Boxers or briefs? Boxers

Moustache or beard? Neither *shudders* but if I have to choose, moustache.

Long hair or shaven head? Long Hair I reckon, something to hang on to.

Tattoos or piercings? Tattoos are pretty!

Intelligent or funny? Gah, can’t I have both? I do love a funny guy, though.

Blond, brunette or red head? I don’t care, really. I do have a soft spot for gingers though.

Hottest celebrity (tell us why, if you like)? I love David Tennent of Dr Who Fame. It’s all in the eyes.

Top same-sex crush (or opposite sex if you already like same-sex!) I would like Shakira to show me how to wiggle my hips like she does!

Most disliked celebrity (tell us why, if you like) Will Young, he sounds like a strangled cat!

Favourite food All of it! I do love cheesecake and meringue and chocolate and parsnips and…no, I can’t choose really.

Favourite book (tell us why, if you like) One? Just one? You cruel thing. Okay I’ll go with my favourite Romance, Jane Eyre.

Favourite place in the world (tell us why, if you like) Scarborough, the bestest Seaside town in the world. I’ve been there at least once a year since I was a kid.

Anything else you’d like to add?  Thanks for having me!

Excerpt:

“So, are you two ready?” he asked. “I’ll get Chester to bring the limo round.”

“We can go in mine,” Darren snapped.

“Oh, don’t start this again.” I shook my head. “Decide nicely or I’ll be getting the damn Tube home.”

If the billionaires could be so abrupt with me, I’d be snappy with them.

“Fine,” Darren shrugged, “but we’re going back to my hotel.”

“Where are you staying?”

While the boys argued amongst themselves I took the date book and locked it away in my desk. I’d filled up a lot of the year and some dates had drifted into the next one. With the business I’d secured I was guaranteed to finish the fiscal year pleasantly in profit. I might even be able to afford a holiday. If I could persuade myself to stay away from Diamonds long enough.

When I walked back over to them the boys were silent.

“So, are we actually ready now?”

Greg reacted first, slipping his arm into mine and smiling.

“Yes, it seems me and Darren are staying at the same hotel.”

“Wonderful,” I smiled, intensely relieved. “Lead the way.”

Darren took hold of my other arm and we strode out together. I wasn’t expecting the barrage of flashing lights and yelled questions that greeted us. I supposed I had been a little naïve. The boys, with the aid of some huge security guards, pushed past the demands and we scooted into the back of a shiny black limousine. The mellow scent of leather filled the interior. Everything sparkled. I felt like we were in a separate car to the driver who was way, way down at the front.

“Are we going to the hotel, sir?” a polite voice asked. It sounded like it came from behind me, which was puzzling until I realised there was some kind of intercom device. Greg reached to the side of the limo and pressed a button.

“Yes, please, Chester.”

I would have liked more space to actually enjoy the ride home but I was crowded by two competing men and so spent my time flipping my gaze from one to the other, answering questions. Both were squeezed up close to me and both seemed determined to seduce me. I found that mind-spinningly crazy.

“What perfume are you wearing?” Darren ducked his head to sniff at my neck. I was very aware of his lips hovering just above my pulse point. I wished he’d kiss me there.

“Oh, I don’t know. Something fruity.” My mind went completely blank.

“You smell good enough to eat.” Darren continued and his lips did touch my skin but only for the briefest second. My whole body tightened at the gentle kiss.

“Your dress is beautiful.” It seemed Greg was not to be outdone—in fact he boldly ran his hand down my body from my shoulder, over my breast and lower. “I love the feel of velvet.”

“Thank you,” I squeaked then cleared my throat. “Thanks, I love velvet too.”

Tension zinged through me, sexual and otherwise. These two guys who I’d only just met were making me into a battlefield. They were warring to control me.

I wasn’t a woman who enjoyed being mollycoddled. I took decisions, I dived into situations and I expected all of my staff to be respectful to both men and women. I’d reprimanded several for sexism and would go as far as to sack someone if they didn’t change their ways. I should have been appalled by the situation—I wasn’t just a trophy or a business contract. I should have kicked up a fuss and left then and there.

But I didn’t. I liked being the centre of attention. I liked being the prize they both wanted.

I waited for the next move but we pulled up outside the hotel so I had to wait until we exited the car. Again, both men linked arms with me. It was cold outside but apart from the cool breeze on my cheeks I barely felt it because their hard bodies protected me from the elements.

They whisked me across the marble frontage, past the liveried doorman and into a huge reception area. It glittered with prestige and marble. Everything was perfect, neat and tidy. There was nothing overly ornate or showy but you could tell by the purposeful minimalism that this was a very classy place. The kind of place I’d only ever imagined visiting.

We moved across the hall into the bar. Again it was big, shiny but understated. The bar was long and all the staff behind it were in immaculately cut uniforms. They all looked smart and tidy and I looked on with envy. I wished I could get my own staff to look so impressive.

“What would you like to drink?” Darren asked and smirked at Greg.

“I’d love a glass of water, really,” I replied, “I’m so thirsty.”

“I’ll get them to send over some water too, but should we have some champagne? It was a very good night for us all after all.”

Both Darren and Greg had won awards and I was sure they’d both made several deals too as they played the room.

“Yes, why not?” Greg answered before me. “Champagne sounds good.”

When Darren moved away Greg turned to me.

“Look, Kerry, I really would love to spend the night with you but it is killing me to be nice to him.”

“This is you being nice?”

“Exactly.” He almost smiled. I found it surprisingly endearing. “Please can we dump the other guy?”

“No.” I was very firm, it surprised even me. “No, I said I wanted to spend time with you both, so that is what’s going to happen. If you don’t like it, you can leave.”

“God, woman. You’re infuriatingly stubborn.” He growled.

“Now that is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.” I laughed.

Greg sighed. “I’m not used to being told what to do, Kerry. I’m the one in control.”

“I’d noticed, but if you want me, you play by my rules.” It was fun playing him at his own game.

“Oh, I want you.” His growl turned to a gravelly purr. It wasn’t cute, it was the noise of a killer beast merely at rest. Any moment he could pounce and rip me apart. It turned me on. I wriggled in my seat and my damp knickers chafed against my plump lips.

“Then you’ll share nicely.” I leaned in and kissed him. He was shocked, almost as much as I was. His lips were hard and ungiving for a moment—I thought maybe I’d pushed him too far—but then they melted, opened and pushed back and I felt his pent-up arousal running into me. I released my frustrated desire with every move of my lips.

We pulled apart and I had to pant to regain my breath while he licked his lips like he was savouring the taste.

“I’ll do it for you,” he said. I was intoxicated with the power of having him under my control.

“Hey, I want one too.” Darren came back, placed a glass of water before me and pressed his lips to mine. His were plump and giving. He prodded his tongue between my lips, into my mouth, taking control of the kiss and control of me. I felt like I might explode into a million pieces. I hadn’t been kissed in months and now I’d had two smoking hot smooches in as many minutes from two very hot but very different men.

“Okay,” I gasped when he pulled away, “now you’re even.”

The guys glowered at each other. I looked around the room to calm my nerves. Not a single person looked at us. Obviously such things happened often in bars of high-class hotels. It didn’t happen often to me. At all, in fact. I wondered if I was dreaming. I pinched my thigh below the table. It hurt. I definitely wasn’t dreaming.

A tall, skinny waiter brought us a bottle of champagne stood in a silver ice bucket. Balanced on his tray were three tall flutes. He transferred everything to our table with great pomp. I was in awe of his skill.

“Thank you,” I called. He nodded his head politely and walked off.

I knew a little about wine and champagne, only because my barman told me what I needed to order. The champagne in the bucket was clearly expensive—I’d never even heard of the name—and it was suitably French, obviously. I was sure Darren had ordered the most expensive in the place just to outdo Greg. I outdid both of them by just sipping at my water.

“Shall we take the rest of the bottle to my room?”

I nearly choked when I heard what Greg had said.

“Pardon?”

“Well, you wanted us to share nicely and I don’t think that even in an establishment like this where confidentiality is taken seriously we could share you, nicely or otherwise, right here in the bar.”

It took a moment to register that Greg Stamford, billionaire high-flyer and serious hottie, was propositioning me for a threesome. I’d agreed to it earlier, but it still seemed too much like a fairy tale to be actually real.

“I agree, mate. We’d get chucked out. Want to go to my room? It’s the Ambassador Suite.” Darren announced this like I should be impressed. Maybe it was the most expensive room in the hotel? I wasn’t sure.

“My room has the best view over the city,” Greg snapped.

“Yes, that’s what they tell people who can’t get in the Ambassador Suite.”

“Boys, stop it.” My voice was quite loud. The low murmur of conversation stopped for a moment, then carried on.

“Look. You are both very rich, I get it. You both want to be top dog, I get that too, but would you stop bickering like bloody schoolboys, okay? I am very flattered, truly, and I never in a million years would have imagined being in this situation…” I left the sentence hanging and gathered my thoughts.

“Please don’t say no.” Darren’s smile dissipated. “I’m sorry.”

“Well—” I tried to continue with my tirade. I had the moral high ground. I was going to say thanks but no thanks and leave both gentleman hanging, but say that I hoped they’d both still honour their bookings. I was going to make a stand, I really was. Then… Well, I’m not quite sure what happened.

“I’m sorry too,” Greg added. “We’re just billionaires used to getting our own way. Let’s go to the Ambassador Suite, it’s a lovely room.”

Had I heard that right? Had Greg Stamford apologised and ceded to his most hated rival?

“Yes, let’s,” Darren nodded. “Please, Kerry?”

I challenge any woman alive to not cave in when hit with not one but two sets of puppy dog eyes from intensely handsome men. I couldn’t do it.

“Come on then,” I whispered, “lead the way.”

An Interview with Kay Jaybee

I’ve put together some fun interview questions for the site, and have asked my fellow Brit Babes to complete them. Here’s the first interviewee – the fabulous Kay Jaybee. Take it away, Kay…

Kay Jaybee1. Tell us about yourself. Both your writing self and your non-writing self. What are your interests and hobbies? Do you have a day job, etc?

Hello! Well, I’m Kay Jaybee- and I’m also Jenny Kane- and sometimes- when I have time- I’m me!!

Kay is 5ft 5, wears short skirts, boots and is rather flirty.

Jenny is 5ft 5, wears jeans and is rather shy.

I am 5ft 5- I wear short skirts sometimes- but only with tights so think they could repel lasers, but mostly I’m a jeans and trainers girl.
Once my family are off to work and school, I start my days with a trip to my local coffee shop, where I write for 2 hours. After that I head home, where I work over the Internet as an admin assistant for a distance learning company for a further 2 hours. Then, it’s back to the coffee shop again to write some more!

Once upon a time I had a hobby I loved- it was writing- then one day, without me even noticing, my hobby was my job!! I live, breathe, sleep and dream writing!!

On the very rare occasions when I’m not writing, I love to walk. I’m very lucky to live near a great number of wonderful walking places, and just adore exploring new woods and moors. I also LOVE history. Many years ago I was an archaeologist, and a medieval history tutor, and I still get overexcited about being able to clamber over castles, roman villas, and other ancient sites!!

2. Give us the background on your latest release.

My latest release, The Retreat (out in Oct 2013), is the sequel to my BDSM novel, The Perfect Submissive.

This was a book I never thought I’d write! Originally The Perfect Submissive was intended to be a standalone story. However, much to my delight, it was so popular, that Xcite asked me to extend the story of Miss Jess Sanders, not just with a sequel, but with a trilogy!
After my initial joy, I then began to panic- what would I write? I wasn’t sure what challenges I’d make Jess face! It wasn’t a case of having no ideas- but of having way too many!

It was a conversation with my friend Debs that set the plot for The Retreat going. The second Debs suggested sending Jess away to a retreat, cut off from the rest of the world; I knew exactly what I’d make Jess face- and where she’d face it. I lived in Scotland for some years, and as a lover of history, I visited as many of the beautiful castles there. The Retreat is based on a cross between the gorgeous castles, Crathes, Drum and Fraser.

When Debs added that maybe I should include a fairytale theme my mind went into over-drive…

3. How did you get started with writing? And what was your route to publication like?

I started to write erotic by accident- an idea popped into my head 9 years ago while I was sitting in a cafe in Scotland. I just had to write it down, and the only thing to hand was a paper napkin. So, my very first short story saw life as scribbles on a napkin covered in the crumbs from a Mars Bar scone!!

I was very lucky- that first story was taken by Cleis Press. If it hadn’t been, I don’t think I’d have written another one. After that early publication I discovered Oysters and Chocolate – the much missed, and totally brilliant erotica site- for whom I wrote over 20 stories, before going on to publish my first solo book, The Collector (Austin & Macauley).

At the same time as working with Oysters, I also began to write short stories for Xcite, and before I knew it, Quick Kink One was created; soon to be followed by its sister book, Quick Kink Two. Thanks to the success of those early anthologies, I was offered the chance to do a novel- which lead to my bestseller, The Perfect Submissive- since then I’ve never looked back… I keep waiting for it all to go wrong…I never take any publication for granted, and I always keep my fingers crossed!!

4. What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on the third instalment of The Perfect Submissive Trilogy. Entitled Knowing Her Place, we catch up with Miss Jess Sanders fresh from her adventures at The Retreat…I’m going to say no more, as The Retreat has only just been released, and I don’t want to spoil it for you!!!

5. Do you have a particular Muse for your writing? Do any of your characters bear startling resemblances to sexy celebrities or people you admire?

Almost all of my story ideas are triggered my quite mundane things- overheard conversations, objects being left in the wrong place which cause my mind to leap ahead- wondering why certain things are where they shouldn’t be- for example, why has someone left an umbrella in a supermarket freezer…you’d be amazed what my imagination could do with that!!

I have one muse who occasionally inspires me. He isn’t a celeb (I have very little time for them truth be told), but a real person who, although he couldn’t be more different from me, always manages to trip my mind onto the correct track for any story I need to write should the dreaded writers block strike.

6. Where do you see yourself in five years? Both writing-wise and non-writing-wise?

Well, assuming my daughters still want to go to University, I’ll be completely broke as I try to support them! I hope I’ll still be writing some erotica, but my main aim is to expand out of the genre, and have at least 3 more Jenny Kane (my contemporary romance alter ego) novels out there…and maybe a play…

And now for some silly questions…

7. Muscled or skinny? Skinny (well- a build between the two if I can be picky!!)

8. Tall or short? Short (although my husband is tall- whoops!

9. Boxers or briefs? Boxers

10. Moustache or beard? Beard (neither for preference)

11. Long hair or shaven head? Shaven hair for a man, long for a woman

12. Tattoos or piercings? Tattoos (neither for preference)

13. Intelligent or funny? Funny (can’t I have both?)

14. Blond, brunette or red head? Red head

15. Hottest celebrity (tell us why, if you like)? Tricky as I don’t really follow the celebrity thing- but someone who has really earned their fame, who also used to tickle my fancy was Ray Winstone as a young man- he was so hot in Robin of Sherwood- and he still has a twinkle in his eye!

16. Top same-sex crush (or opposite sex if you already like same-sex!) Drew Barrymore

17. Most disliked celebrity (tell us why, if you like)- anyone who is famous for being on a reality TV show, but has done nothing else with their lives, is a major turn off for me.

18. Favourite food Chinese- especially the starter platters you get in Chinese restaurants.

19. Favourite book (tell us why, if you like) – This is tricky- I like so many different genres! It would have to be The Rose Revived by Katie Fforde for a light read, The Daughters of Cain by Colin Dexter for a touch of crime, and Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett for cynical brilliance!

20. Favourite place in the world (tell us why, if you like) – I love so many places- but Dartmoor has to be up there – it’s so barren, yet so vibrant, and you can walk for miles without seeing another living soul. Not only that, but the footprints of our ancient ancestors are invisibly marked all over it- paradise for an ex-archaeologist who likes a leg stretch!

21. Anything else you’d like to add? If you ever meet me, offer me a cup of coffee- I’ll be a friend for life xx

My latest release is The Retreat- Part 2 of The Perfect Submissive Trilogy.

The RetreatBlurb-

Just as Jess is beginning to relax into her new life as a submissive at The Fables Hotel, her employer Mrs Peters announces that she is loaning both Jess, and her dominatrix Miss Sarah, to one of their most demanding clients; Mr David Proctor.

Whisked away by the mysterious Kane to The Retreat, hidden in a remote part of Scotland, Jess and Miss Sarah find themselves teaching another submissive to meet Proctor’s exacting rules.

As Jess comes to terms with the techniques of The Retreat Mistress, and the strictly overpowering dominatrix Lady Tia, she discovers that Proctor’s motives may not be all they seem.

Just who or what is Fairtasia? And why does Jess feel like she’s walked into a warped fairy tale?

In order to get back to The Fables, Jess is going to have to be more than just a perfect submissive…

Extract-

JESS WASN’T SURE exactly what she’d expected to happen once they’d been escorted into the castle. What she had been sure of, however, was that Miss Sarah was would be right. The moment they crossed the threshold into David Proctor’s territory, they’d be subjected to some kind of sexual action that would make their in-flight entertainment look mild.

The submissive had spent the final part of the journey mentally preparing herself for an instant stripping, beating, and group fuck by every member of the staff she was there to meet. She’d contemplated being fastened to some sort of table or chair, so that her naked frame could be examined and teased to the point when her endurance broke; and being the target for every sort of sex toy ever invented. What Jess had not expected was nothing.

When she and Miss Sarah had finally been ordered to approach the castle, they’d stuck close together, walking slowly. As they’d stepped before the main door, someone from within had let out a whistle, and a male-shaped shadow had appeared from the gloom of the night. Steering Jess by the neck, the stranger had taken her inside, while Kane emerged from the door and shoved Miss Sarah in a totally different direction.

Ushered through the large entrance hall, with barely enough time to take in more than the solid, whitewashed walls, and the profusion of bold tartan chairs and sofas, Jess had been vaguely conscious of a group of people standing to one side. They mutely observed her being swiftly manoeuvred past them.

Still held by the back of the neck, she was frogmarched along a narrow corridor by a slim young man Jess hadn’t been able to see clearly in the dark. Whoever he was, he had kept purposely behind her as they strode through the castle, and she hadn’t dared ask him anything as she saw that a spiral staircase of bare stone lay ahead of them.

Two minutes later, they’d reached an open wooden door. With no corridors to either the left or right, there was no other way to go but through, and Jess had suddenly been reminded of Rapunzel, who’d been imprisoned in a room at the top of a tower with nowhere to run.

The guide held her by the shoulders. His unspoken instruction that she should not try to look at him was made clear by the intensity of his grip. With an unexpected burst of speed, the man then took a step down, at the same time urging Jess firmly forward. No sooner had she stepped into the room than the door was snapped shut behind her, and Jess had found herself alone in a circular space which had curtains drawn all the way around it.

Five minutes later, she was still taking slow, deep breaths as she tried to soothe herself. Whatever was happening would be for a reason, and if she knew David Proctor like she thought she did, Jess was sure that somewhere in the room there was probably a camera observing her every move, gauging how she was reacting to this enforced situation.

Standing still, she cast her eyes around the room. If life at Fables had taught her anything, it was that the more detail she took in about her surroundings, and the more attention she paid to every word spoken to her, the more she’d learn, and the better her chances of survival and erotic contentment would be.

‘So, I’m inside the turret, then.’ In the centre of the room, a spindle-backed wooden chair sat next to a matching table. ‘All that’s missing here is a spinning wheel. Forget Rapunzel, this is Sleeping Beauty!’ Jess muttered to herself as she walked around the rug-covered stone floor, skirting the very edges of the room as if she was a tiger patrolling the surrounds of its cage. She ran her hands across the floor to ceiling dark purple velvet curtains. Unsure if she wanted to see or not, she drew them back.

The majority of the room’s walls were constructed of large blocks of bare granite, but as Jess threw open the third curtain, she stepped back in surprise. A wooden door, about four feet high, and two foot across, had been built into the curve of the stone. ‘OK, so maybe this isn’t Sleeping Beauty after all. Maybe it’s Snow White.’

With her heart thumping, Jess placed her hand on the brass doorknob, and bent to see what was through the doorway. ‘Oh thank God!’
It was a washroom. A modern shower cubicle, sink, and toilet were plumbed into the exquisitely tiled carpeted semicircle. Making use of the facilities, Jess wondered if this was to be her room; where she was to spend all her time when she wasn’t doing whatever it was that Proctor expected her to do.

Returning to the larger room, Jess continued to throw back the curtains, wondering if any other cubbyholes were secretly attached to this turret. No more doors appeared but, drawing back the last pair of drapes, Jess jumped as she came face to face with her own bedraggled reflection.

A huge, round mirror stared at her. ‘So maybe this is Snow White! Complete with the scary mirror on the wall and the dwarf-sized door. Which means, I only have the Wicked Queen left to meet.’

As soon as she’d spoken the words she slammed her hand to her mouth, wishing she hadn’t said them out loud. Until that point she’d considered herself to be doing well. She’d shown whoever was watching her via the camera she was convinced was installed in the turret somewhere that she was capable of acting calmly, and was brave enough to explore, not merely sitting and cowering on the chair awaiting her fate. Now she’d blown it. I might as well have laid on the bed and wanked without permission, Jess thought crossly. Instantly, she wished she hadn’t had that thought either, for some solo comfort from her fingers over her ever-damp clit would been have more than welcome…

Interview with Portia Da Costa

I’m very (very, very) excited to announce that I have Portia Da Costa on my site today. Portia’s books were some of the first erotic books I ever read, and I’ve enjoyed her work ever since. I’m delighted that she’s here today to tell a little more about her writing career in general, and what other naughty goodness she has coming out.

Thanks so much for agreeing to be interviewed, it’s great to have you here. So here are a few questions to help readers to get to know you better.

Have you always written? How did you get started?

No, I didn’t start writing until I was in my thirties. I’ve always been an avid reader, but before that it had never occurred to me that someone like me could write a book or a story. But then, I started attending Star Trek and media conventions and I became friends with lots of lovely fan fiction writers there. I didn’t write Trek fiction myself, but I did try my hand at writing a short story to celebrate another fandom I was into at the time… and I was completely amazed to find I *could* actually write something. It was pretty terrible, admittedly, but it was a start. I went on to write more stories in that series, learning as I went, and eventually I decided that I’d try and get something published. The stories I’d been writing were erotic, but also romantic, so I set my sights on Mills & Boon initially. Getting accepted by Mills & Boon was as tough then as it is now, so after half a dozen attempts, I switched to submitting my work to erotica publishers instead. Last year however, Mills & Boon reprinted one of my HQN books in the UK. It’s only taken me twenty five years to get there! LOL

Did you write other genres before erotica and erotic romance?

Not really. I’ve been writing romantic erotica from day one, really, although I have also written a couple of sweeter romances since.

How did you start writing erotica and erotic romance?

I think I’ve pretty much covered that one in my previous answers. I’ve always written erotica and erotic romance. Many of my friends in fan fiction were writing the more erotic stuff, so it seemed natural for me to start there too.

What was the first piece you had published, and where?

It was a short story called THE MAN IN BLACK, and it was published in Forum magazine in 1991. My first erotic novel was published in 1992, and my first Black Lace novel, GEMINI HEAT, was published in 1994. Curiously enough, the hero of Gemini Heat is a gorgeous billionaire who’s into BDSM… so there’s nothing new under the sun, is there?

How did you feel about your first publication?

Elated! I found it hard to believe it had actually happened, even though I knew it had. I was still feeling that only ‘other people’ could be real writers, not me.

How did you come up with your pen name?

After I’d been writing for my first publisher for a little while, I had a book accepted for Black Lace and they asked me to come up with a new pseudonym. Fast! That evening, I watched ‘A Fish Called Wanda’ and the character of Archie had a daughter called ‘Portia’. The next day, I was watching some motorcycle racing on the telly, and heard the orthopaedic surgeon who looked after the riders referred to as ‘Doctor Da Costa’. Ta da!

What did you do before you started writing full time?

For many years I worked as a librarian, and then after that, I worked as a clerical officer in Local Government.

What inspires you?

It’s hard to pin that down. Ideas just seem to come to me out of the blue, but sometimes they’re prompted by something I’ve seen on the television, or in a film. Or something I’ve read in books, magazines, newspapers, or online. Or something I’ve seen when I’m out and about, in everyday life, or something I’ve overheard. It’s like a lot of little things gather in my subconscious and gradually blend together to make a story idea.

Who inspires you?

As a muse? Well, it’s usually some gorgeous actor or singer or other famous man that’s taken my fancy. My current inspiration is mainly Simon Baker, as the Mentalist, with a side order of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock. In the past I’ve written books and stories with heroes inspired by Vincent D’Onofrio, James Marsters, Edward Norton, Dean Cain, David Krumholtz and many, many others… oh, I’ve had dozens of crushes!

What’s next for Portia Da Costa?

Well, I’ve got THE ACCIDENTAL CALL GIRL out now, and the next book in that series will be THE ACCIDENTAL MISTRESS, which continues the love story of John Smith, an urbane, kinky, drop dead gorgeous multi-millionaire, and Lizzie Aitchison, the young woman he originally met in a bar and at first believed to be an escort! These two have a fiery passionate relationship, but they both have issues that stand in the way of them reaching ‘happily ever after’. They’ll get there in the end, but it’s not going to be an easy ride…

THE ACCIDENTAL MISTRESS is out in August, and THE ACCIDENTAL BRIDE, the conclusion to Lizzie and John’s love story, is out in October.

I’ve also got the second novel in my Ladies’ Sewing Circle series out in May/June. It’s called DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH, and it’s super-hot Victorian historical romance about two distant cousins, Adela and Wilson Ruffington, who have a thorny, difficult relationship, but who still can’t keep their hands off one another. As well as Diamonds, I’ve also got a Ladies’ Sewing Circle novella anthology coming out, called A GENTLEWOMAN’S QUARTET. This features all four of the Sewing Circle stories, originally published as Spice Briefs, and it’ll be published on the 15th March.

Bonus question: What do you think about “that book” and how it’s affected the erotica and erotic romance industry?

I’ve never read ‘that book’. When I’m writing, I always read mainly outside my own genre, in order to bring fresh and different ideas to my own books and stories. I’m very grateful to ‘that book’ though, because it’s generated a wider interest in erotica and erotic romance, and that’s brought my books to the attention of many, many more readers, ones who may not have discovered my work otherwise.

The Accidental Call GirlThe Accidental Call Girl

When Lizzie Aitchison meets John Smith in the Lawns Bar of the Waverley Grange Hotel she doesn’t realise at first that he thinks she’s “working”. The chemistry between them is dynamite from the very first glance exchanged across the room, and she can’t resist the allure of his fallen angel face and the way his lean body looks in a sharp business suit. Pretty soon, she’s playing a dangerous game with him. John’s a no nonsense guy who seems to be set on engaging an escort for sex rather than simply meeting a pretty girl to chat up in a bar, and if that’s the only way she can get this gorgeous, irresistible man, Lizzie decides to act the part. Over just one drink, she becomes “Bettie”, the high class call girl…

1.       When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I have always been a writer. There was no official date or announcement. My family says that I always said I would write a book someday, so now I have. Fables of the Reconstruction is my shot in the dark, so to speak.

2. What has been the most difficult part about being a writer?

The most difficult part of writing is taking an idea from telling to showing, which is the exact opposite of how things are done in the real world.

3. Who are your favorite authors?

There are so many great authors and so many I idolize, collect and admire. Here’s my current favs, my author crushes… Livia Ellis. Her debut release ‘Memoir of a Gigolo’ is outstanding. She had me at gigolo. Tara Stogner Wood and I have real chemistry, too.  She’s sexy.  Lucy, you are the Empress of Erotica and I love your works.

Fables of the Reconstruction4. What authors inspire you?

Part of the inspiration for ‘Fables of the Reconstruction’ was the book ‘The Crimson Petal and The White’ written by Michel Faber. He wrote the story of Victorian London that I believe Charles Dickens wanted to write but couldn’t because of the standards of his own time.

5. Do you like to plan your scenes out or do you just wing it?

I attempt to plan an outline for everything I write. However, Fables of the Reconstruction took its own direction, once I started writing.

6. What type of books do you like to read?

I love history books, historical autobiographies, books on spirituality and erotica.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

Free time? I work out, socialize, listen to music, read, travel.

8. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

That is a great question. As you already know, it is difficult for me to have just one favorite of anything. The places I love to visit the most so far are London, New Orleans, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. However, going to my farm in Tennessee rejuvenates me and keeps me grounded. Sometimes it’s good to just get your hands and feet on the earth and connect with your ancestors.

9. Was there a reason why you picked November 2, the Day of the Dead, as your release date?

November 2, the Day of the Dead, Día de los Muertos, is a National Holiday in Mexico, Central and South America, and on numerous Caribbean Islands. In the Catholic Church it is All Souls Day. I drew so much from Haiti, voodoo and Creole cultures, it only seemed appropriate that I would honor the holiday. Drums beat all night long on November 2 in Haiti, so that sounds pretty rock and roll, doesn’t it?

10. Why did you choose to write a paranormal erotica?

The genre chose me.

11. What has been the most fun about working on Fables of the Reconstruction?

The most fun has been the writing process itself. I have never been allowed to let my imagination run free. It’s been an amazing trip. I’ve met so many talented, new friends that write – such as you. It’s just been great.

12. How do you come up with the premise for Fables of the Reconstruction?

Fables started as a short story for a friend I recently lost. I wanted to capture his refinement and beauty in order to create a tribute to him. However, I kept having these crazy dreams about a rockstar and couldn’t figure out what that was all about. Then, I realized Pierre von Minzle was a character that combined the traits of both men,  and the entire zombie story fell into place from there.

13. Can you tell me more about the fascinating themes of Pomba Gira Mysticism. Creole Voodoo. The seeds of the zombie apocalypse?

I have always studied religions and am especially drawn to the mysteries of native cultures probably due to the influence of the Cherokees in Tennessee. I ran across Pomba Gira while reading and discovered the ties to Haitian and Creole Voodoo. Their cultures believe in zombies – not the zombies Hollywood has created but the undead – people that are living but have no souls. However, the Hollywood version of zombies had to start somewhere.

14. Do you have any favorite characters from your books? If so, why?

Pierre von Minzle is beautiful, wicked and surprisingly human for a demon. I am completely enchanted by him.

15. Will this book be a part of a series? If so, how many books are you planning and when can we expect the next?

There will be two books in the series.  I’m planning to release Book 2, ‘Reconstruction of the Fables’ in February/March 2013.

16. What’s next for you?

There are two anthologies, possibly three, in process. I’ll know about the third one in a few days. They haven’t been officially announced however I can tell you the works will have a global appeal. Also I have a series of sexy vignettes called ‘Tales from a New Amsterdam’.Look for the first story to be released in the next few weeks on Amazon.com, ebook format only.

17. Anything else you want your readers to know?

A special thank you goes out to everyone that follows me and has supported me as an indie author. I am very flattered. Keep in mind when you read my books that I am an artist, and the books are to entertain you.  Thank you for speaking with me Lucy!

Southern Adventures – Sextoys.co.uk HQ

The SexToys WarehouseIt was a hellish two hour journey which eventually ended up with me arriving at Sextoys.co.uk HQ in Luton. I know some of you are now wondering what on earth this has to do with the south, but it’s south for me! The reason I was heading to Sextoys.co.uk HQ is because the peeps there are interviewing various erotic writers (including K D Grace) to include on their fab website. I was asked, and in the spirit of doing things that scare and stretch me, I said yes.

I arrived at my destination feeling a little disgruntled and annoyed that I was a little late (due to roadworks and idiots crashing!), because I hate keeping people waiting. Luckily, when Cara and Ellie came down the stairs from their office to meet me, they didn’t seem to mind. They were happy and smiley and I immediately felt better, though still nervous about the fact I was about to be plonked in front of a camera.

An initial technical hitch ended up with Cara and I wandering around the room talking random gibberish into the mics to make sure everything was working OK. Then we chatted more sensibly to one another while Ellie finalised her set up. Then the show was on the road!

The GirlsCara quizzed me on my writing, existing and new releases, working techniques, erotica recommendations and more. I answered her questions, all the while remembering not to look at the camera, to keep smiling and to stop saying ‘erm’ all the time! Later, Ellie assured me that they’d be able to edit some things out, so hopefully I’ll come across as articulate at the very least. I heaved a sigh of relief when it was over (this is not a reflection on Cara and Ellie – I was terrified and hate being in front of a video camera), and Cara gave me a tour of the HQ, including their warehouses and offices, where I got to meet some of the other lovely people that keep the place running smoothly.

Journey aside, it was a fun experience and I didn’t really want to leave as Cara and I were having a nice chat. Alas, I had places to go, people to see, etc… so my adventure was over and now I wait with baited breath to see the ‘final cut.’ I’ll let you know as soon I do!

Thanks to Cara, Ellie and the guys at Sextoys.co.uk HQ for having me xxx
