Have you ever had something you felt like you just had to do? Well, for me that was writing my own version of Dracula. I first read Bram Stoker’s Dracula when I was about twelve years old. I think it’s safe to say I have been obsessed with vampires ever since.

Dracula In the FleshMy biography doesn’t lie; I have always been drawn to the macabre with a fondness for anything with fangs. Even as a young child I was fascinated with werewolves, witches, and vampires. While other girls were playing “house” with their Barbies, I was playing, “Let’s bite Ken,” or “Ken is a werewolf.” Ha. Ha. Ha.

Like many classic villains, I never felt that Dracula had a fair shake, so to speak. In truth, I never saw him as a villain at all. For so long now he has been the man of my dreams. Maybe that’s why in my story Mina has dreamed of him all her life.

This story is more a part of me than I can fully describe. I feel like I’ve waited my whole life to write this book, as if I was working up to it.

A few people have asked me why I wrote this book as T.K. Hardin. Especially, since I still put my name (Tracey H. Kitts) so prominently on the cover. I have chosen to write this book as T.K. Hardin simply to let my regular readers know that this book is a change from the norm. Although there are elements of horror in many of my other books, they are not erotic horror stories. Normally, I write erotic paranormal romance. Though there is certainly a love story in Dracula: In The Flesh, there are also many other elements that might offend someone expecting something a bit milder. My beta readers loved the story just as well as my other books. However, I didn’t want anyone walking into this one without fair warning. Dracula: In The Flesh is not for the faint of heart.

Dracula: In The Flesh is what I believe the story should be. In one instant it is brutal, violent and frightening, and the next heartbreaking and romantic. I am thrilled to present this book to readers and I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys this story as I have.

Book Info:

Jonathan Harker, a young English lawyer, is traveling to Castle Dracula in order to finalize a real estate transaction. He has been personally requested by Count Dracula. What Jonathan doesn’t realize is that Dracula’s interests do not lie with him, but with his beautiful fiancée, Mina.

As soon as he saw her face, Dracula knew the ritual was a success. After all these long years, his love has returned to him. However, many things (such as Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker) stand in the way of their happiness. Sure, he could kill them all and take what he wants. However, his greatest desire is not to possess Mina, but to love her and have her return his love.

Therefore, Dracula’s fate and the fate of those closest to her lie in Mina’s hands. She has dreamed of him all her life. But what will she do when she learns her dark prince is real? What will happen when she knows him, not as a dream, but in the flesh?

WARNING: This book contains graphic violence, and graphic sex. This is NOT a romance novel, although there is a romance involved. This is Erotic Horror and might offend some readers.

Spooky Smut in the City

spookysitcThe brief for the hop was that my post should be sexy and scary, not wet your pants scary, which actually, is utterly perfect for me. Because that sums up what I like as a person, and what I like to write. I have such a vivid imagination that I won’t read serious  horror books or watch horror films. I wouldn’t sleep – and that’s definitely not a good thing. I’m terrifying when I haven’t had enough sleep!

So, here’s my sexy snippet, which is from my vampire erotic story, A Party to Remember, which appears in the newly-released The House of Erotica Witching Hour anthology. Enjoy!

Then he kissed me. Once my body processed what my brain was screaming at it, I reacted. I pushed his chest as hard as I could, then ducked out of the way, moving for the door.

“What the fuck!”

Before I could get even halfway to the door, he was on me again. He gripped me around the waist and pulled me to him. He seemed not to notice my stamping hard on his foot, or elbowing him in the ribs. He didn’t even blink when I slapped him in the face. But his pupils seemed to grow and he grabbed my wrists and slammed me against the wall.

I’d never been so turned on in my life. And the realization shocked me to my very core.

Dracula’s lithe yet fiercely strong body had me pinned to the wall. I was completely helpless. When he bent to kiss me again I didn’t resist. It was like he’d put some kind of spell on me. If vampires were real, I’d have said he was glamoring me. Part of my mind knew I didn’t even like the guy, let alone want to do anything with him. But the rest of it, and my body, wanted him naked and fucking me like there was no tomorrow.

In the blink of an eye, he’d swept me up in his arms like some helpless damsel in distress and carried me to the bed. All the drapes were pinned back so he deposited me on the mattress before climbing in after me. Then he went about closing all of the curtains, leaving us cocooned in complete darkness.

I lay waiting for his next move. Oddly, I was no longer scared. I was truly living for the here and now. And, let’s face it, who knew how much here and now I had left? Whatever spell he’d put on me, it was a good one.

I felt him move beside me, then a cool hand slipped around my face and turned it towards him. His lips met mine once more, and I opened my mouth. His tongue slipped inside, caressing and dancing with mine until I was dizzy with lust. I could feel his erection pressing against my hip and smiled to myself. He wanted me as much as I wanted him.

Excerpt from Ascend

Those baby blues never left mine.  Ancient and steely, they seemed to burrow into my very soul.  “I felt nothing.  Not happiness or sadness…not even relief.  I carried on as I had for centuries and he watched me flourish, vackra.  I cared little then.  I had lost everything: my family, my life, my heritage… I accepted this immortal life over death.  I had no choice.  Yet Amir clung to his humanity, fighting his true nature.  It is a futile struggle.  We are all vampires.  We feed off of another to survive.  Animals are killed to provide food for humans, plants are grown and then harvested for ones survival.  What we are is not much different than humans.  We simply watch the world change and adapt to loss.”

There was a bitterness to Stefan’s tone when he spoke.  My eyes swept over his face, taking in the tense set of his mouth and clenched jaw as I considered his statement.  I’d never thought of comparing human life to that of a vampire.  And now I knew better as to his struggle with loss.  “You lost me when you died.”

His blond eyebrow rose.  “There is that.  It saddens me that I do not fully remember.  I only have flashes of memories…it has been too many years.”

“I saw us together in a memory with my mother.  You begged me to take you before I appeared.  It was while you were missing…after the explosion.”  I whispered.  I leaned closer until our lips barely touched.  “I lost you too.  A thousand years is a long time, Stefan.  I want to remember.  I want to remember it all.”

“You will.”  His impatient hand wove into my hair and pulled my mouth to his.  Our lips met and time stood still.  It was as effortless as when I was still human.  My fingers tugged at his hair, our hips grinding against each other eagerly. My lips parted against the demanding crush of his mouth, his kiss raw and seductive. Our tongues slipped languidly together as we fell into one another, losing ourselves into our kiss.  I savored the taste of him and the feel of his body against my own.  The familiar touch of his flesh against my own ignited the sweet pull of desire, leaving me restless and impatient for more.

Stefan raised his mouth from mine, his lips moist and kiss swollen.  He pulled back and rested his head on his hand, hovering over me.  His fingertips traced along the side of my cheek and down the curve of my jaw as he studied my face carefully.  When his blue eyes finally met my gaze, his hand cupped my chin.  His gentle touch made my breath catch and my bottom lip caught between my teeth.  His thumb tugged at my lower lip, pulling it loose.  “I fear things, Josephine.  I do not know how it is possible to remember something that has been forgotten.  And if I do remember, how do I begin to live with myself knowing I forgot about you…about us?  How does one disregard such an important memory?”  He sighed and his hand dropped to drift down my neck.  “You have given up so much of yourself already…you have given up your life.  I do not want you to lose yourself in this mission to remember.  What will happen if what we discover is too much for you to bear?”

His words stunned me for a moment.  My emotions, already harried, were warring between agreeing with him and pure anger.  Did he think I would walk away from discovering something so important to us both, regardless of the outcome?

Pushing away from him, I sat up, letting the sheet drop to my waist.  “I won’t lose myself.  And Stefan, I’m still the same person and I will be regardless of what we find out. I’ll still be the same woman that melts when I hear your voice say my name; that aches to feel your skin against mine and has loved you for longer than we both know.  But if I do lose myself, you’ll be right beside me to bring me back.  There is no you and me, Stefan.  We’re one being, one soul…en själ.  That much I know.”

A Sexy Snippet from Fangbangers

FangbangersI’m continuing to highlight some of the stories I have in anthologies as they don’t usually get as much exposure (if you’ll pardon the pun) as my single-author stories. Here’s an excerpt from my story, Shattered Resistance, which appears in the Ravenous Romance anthology called Fangbangers.

Later that night Suzy crept into Dane’s room, hoping desperately that she’d left it late enough and he was asleep. There’s another couple of bullshit rumours dispelled – vampires DO sleep, and they don’t sleep in coffins. Well, they can, but it’s not necessary for survival. Besides, how could someone living in student accommodation sleep in a coffin without somebody noticing? Surely even Goths have never done that!

Dane was in bed, and he appeared to be asleep. Perfect. Suzy crept over as silently as possible. Her heart was pounding in her chest – she knew she was taking a risk, but she had no other choice. He would turn her. She loved him deeply, and just knew they’d be perfect together. Slinking closer, she cringed at every minute sound, knowing everything that if something sounded quiet to her, with Dane’s super-sensitive hearing it would be magnified tenfold. In fact, she was surprised she hadn’t woken him already.

As she stood by the side of the bed looking down on Dane, Suzy’s nerve almost gave way. He was so handsome, and yet so dangerous. Yet here she was, slinking into his room in the dead of the night to make sure she got her way. She must be nuts. Still, no backing out now. She was lucky he hadn’t heard her up until now; trying to get back out of the room undetected she might not be so lucky.

Suzy took a deep breath, knowing she had to act fast to put her plan into action before Dane awoke. She grabbed the duvet that covered him, wondering what he wore for bed, if anything. She didn’t have to wonder for long. She pulled, and revealed his body in all its naked glory. As he was lying on his back, nothing was left to the imagination. Suzy was pleased to note than even in its flaccid state, Dane’s penis was still of an impressive size. Not that she’d expected anything less – vampires were superior in every other way – it just wouldn’t make sense for him to have a small cock.

Time to make it bigger, she thought. Discarding the duvet, Suzy sat gingerly on the edge of the bed, reached for Dane’s cock and began to stroke it. As she did, she manoeuvred herself so she could reach it with her mouth. His prick began to grow tumescent beneath her fingers and she leant down and closed her lips around the tip. Continuing to caress him with her hand, she began to lick and suck at the head of his rapidly swelling shaft. She’d always enjoyed giving head and considered herself to be pretty good at it – but giving oral sex to a vampire was on a whole other level.

Dane’s breathing started to become somewhat laboured, and Suzy was unsure if he was going to wake up, or whether he thought he was just having a particularly realistic dream. She felt sure her luck would run out soon and that he’d regain consciousness and discover what was really going on. As his cock became more rigid as a result of her ministrations, she sensed he was going to come soon and smiled inwardly. Soon he’d be hers, and she’d be his. Her plan was coming together perfectly.

Dane’s cock began to pulse, a sign of his impending orgasm. She looked up at his face and was shocked to see his eyes wide open and watching her. Their eyes met, and he smiled; his incisors white, strong – and elongated. Suzy had been so intent on the job at hand that she hadn’t realised quite how turned on she’d become, until more pussy juices began to seep out and onto the already-soaked material of her panties. Surely he couldn’t turn her down now. He clearly wasn’t going to stop her at this point in time – and who knew how long he’d been awake and aware of what she was doing?

Moving her hand off his shaft, Suzy deep-throated Dane’s cock, despite its now extremely impressive size. Dane moaned loudly, no longer able to stave off his orgasm, and gasped as he shot load after load of white hot come down Suzy’s throat.

Chapter One

Kilburn Castle, Scotland

1766

Some said that Edgar, Laird MacReiver, had made a deal with the devil. And not just an ordinary deal, for he’d agreed to marry the devil’s daughter.

Lacking a superstitious cast of mind, he’d never regretted his decision to ally with Clan Kilburn until this moment. Atop the battlements, he disregarded the noontime sun glittering over the sea, the fresh spring breeze off the water and the white clouds scudding through the sky. Instead, he watched the scene below him.

Down in the castle courtyard, a young woman struggled with a horse. Not just any young woman. She’d been betrothed to him before her birth. And not just any horse. Isobel, now eighteen, grasped the bridle of Ranger, a buckskin stallion, the pride and joy of Edgar’s heart.

She wrestled with a reluctant Ranger before swinging long legs clad in trews over the steed’s back. Clinging to his mane, she somehow kept her seat while the stallion curvetted and spun. Her hat flew off and her braid loosened, the black hair whipping ‘round as Ranger sought to dislodge her.

Another neigh and a leap before the horse dashed out of the open gate. His hooves clattered on the drawbridge as he galloped over the moat. Isobel clung to his back like a flea unwilling to give up its perch on a dog.

“I ordered her not to ride Ranger,” Edgar said with some disbelief and more resentment. “He’s too big for her. And he’s young, not quite broken. The only rider he tolerates is me.”

“Our Isobel is a bold horsewoman.” Kieran Kilburn cocked a dark brow at Edgar. “She doesna like to admit that there’s a steed on this earth that she canna master.”

Though nearing his fiftieth year, the Kilburn chieftain hadn’t sprouted even one gray hair. No wrinkles marred his smooth, unusually white skin, save those that were the product of his constant smile. All the Kilburns shared the same traits: tall and strong, with midnight black hair and eyes. In comparison Edgar often had felt like a little white mouse, at least until he grew and the lassies started to take an interest in his fair hair and blue eyes. Then he’d realized that his different looks were an advantage.

An advantage, that is, with everyone but Isobel.

“She obeys you.” The wind loosened the leather thong tying Edgar’s hair at the nape. He tightened it. “Why not me?”

Kier’s eyes twinkled. “She obeys me, laddie, because I punish her when she does not.”

“May I borrow your Dash?” Frowning, Edgar turned to descend into the courtyard with Kieran following.

“Aye, but don’t count on Dash to catch his son.”

“We’ll do our best. Thank you, sir.” He handed his blue jacket to a guard and mounted the buckskin. “I go now to find my bride. I hope she’ll return suitably chastened.”

With a shrug, Kier folded his arms over his chest. “Ye ken what ye have to do.”

* * * * *

Edgar caught up with Isobel and Ranger in the forest. The horse now ambled rather than raced, the trees bordering the meadow surrounding the castle having slowed his flight. Edgar eased Dash into a walk and splashed through a brook while watching Ranger manage Isobel.

The stallion apparently decided that he no longer would tolerate even Isobel’s light weight and proceeded to use a low-hanging branch to scrape her off. She landed flat on her back with a grunt. Ranger headed toward the stream and the new green grass beside it, thank the gods, instead of trampling the silly wench under his hooves.

Her laughter could be heard even from several yards away. “La! What a ride! I’ll tame that mount yet.” She sat up and rubbed her back.

Still on horseback, Edgar towered over her. “The only mount who needs taming is you. No harm done, milady?” He was pleased that he kept a mild tone of voice, because inside he was seething.

“None.” She smiled up at him, her black eyes twinkling through the curtain of her lashes.

Bewitching, but he hardened his heart, determined that he’d not be led by the nose. He didn’t like managing females, and if he allowed her to rule him now, she’d rule him forever. “Whatever possessed you to steal Ranger?”

“I didn’t steal Ranger. I borrowed him.”

“Against my express wishes. If your clumsiness has harmed him, Isobel—”

“My clumsiness?” She leapt to her feet.

He gave her a long, cool stare before turning away. He chirruped to Ranger, who raised his head from the sweet grass by the stream. Still chewing, he walked sedately to Edgar.

He dismounted to caress his horse’s forehead before running his hands along the neck and body. Something hot and red billowed in Isobel’s chest. What was it? ‘Twas the same uncomfortable feeling she got when her younger brothers or sisters claimed too much of their parents’ attention. The same horrible emotion that overcame her when other lassies dared to flirt with Edgar…which happened more frequently than she liked.

Jealousy.

She was jealous of the attention Edgar was giving to a horse. A horse.

Bloody hell.

Removing his gloves, Edgar slid expert fingers up and down each of Ranger’s legs, paying particular attention to the delicate fetlocks.

She wondered how those long, tanned, strong fingers would feel if he touched her. When he finally touched her. So far he’d kept his distance even though they were affianced, a fact which she both liked and resented.

He straightened with a sigh. “No harm done. You were lucky this time, my girl.”

“Your girl? Since when am I your girl?”

He led the horse back to the stream and dropped the reins.  Ranger drank placidly. Standing in the water with tail a’swish, he seemed completely unlike the wild beast she’d sought to tame. Dash joined him.

Edgar eyed the horses, then eyed her. “You’ve been mine since before you were born.”

“I mislike your manner, sir. I am yet unmarried. I belong to no man.”

“You belong to me.” He returned, looming over her, tall and blond and impossibly beautiful. The Angel Laird, the lassies called him. Well, they could have him.

“I willna be ordered. I willna be treated as though I’m a possession.”

He took her by the shoulders. “But you are.”

His mouth descended on hers while one hand seized the back of her head, holding her fast. She couldna resist, and didna want to, for she’d yearned for this moment.

Thanks for the Legacy, Mr Stoker

Bram StokerToday is the 100th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s death, so I wanted to mark the occasion with a blog post.

Naturally, the main thing he left behind was the fabulous novel, Dracula. He had a series of other novels and short stories too, but it was Dracula that seemed to catch the imagination of the world and has spawned a multitude of other vampire-related books, TV shows and movies (not to mention all the merchandise that goes with them!). As a fan of this particular genre, I couldn’t be happier. There is an endless supply of vamp-tastic stuff to keep me occupied forever and a day.

So thank you, Mr Stoker, for Dracula, which I’ve read many times (which certainly made my school, college and University courses much easier!), but really must re-read at some point soon. And thank you for helping to pave the way for some of my favourite things (in no particular order):

  • Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles (I met Anne Rice last year at a signing, but got her to sign her Beauty trilogy instead, as I was only allowed to have three books signed)
  • Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy novels
  • Charlaine Harris’ The Southern Vampire Mysteries (and the show based on them, True Blood)
  • Rachel Caine’s The Morganville Vampires series (I’m going to a signing of hers next month, woohoo!)
  • L. J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries (though it has to be said, the TV show is vastly more entertaining)

That’s just a tiny selection of vamp stuff I love. There are films and books galore that I could mention, but I’ll be going on forever, and I’ll still end up missing some out!

In case you didn’t know, here’s where vamps have sneaked into my work…

And I’ve no doubt there will be more! Despite what the press say about the vampire thing being ‘over,’ I don’t think it is. I still enjoy reading, watching and writing the stuff, and I’m sure many others do, too.

So thank you again, Mr Stoker. You’ve provided us with many, many happy hours of entertainment. RIP.

P.S. Looking for something vamp-tastic to read? Besides the four of my titles mentioned above (of course!), Victoria Blisse just released the third title in her Point Vamp series, The Vampire’s Choice. I haven’t read it yet, but I loved the first two so it’s definitely on my list!
